The Battery Council International (BCI) is a trade association of original equipment manufacturers and after-market car batteries and other lead-acid batteries. Its headquarters are in Chicago, USA.

It promotes recycling of lead-acid batteries, and claims that almost all car batteries are eventually recycled.

After the Center for Ecology, Environmental Defense and Clean Car Campaign published a report in 2003 calling for the removal of lead-based car batteries, BCI issued a press release denying the report's conclusions.

The trade association provides industry standards for the testing, dimensions, and size of lead-acid batteries worth more than $ 1 billion in the North American market each year. Trade associations provide models for legislation to encourage the recycling and handling of safe automotive lead acid battery products.

It also hosts regular conferences and meetings.

In August 2017, Battery Council International launched Essential Energy Everyday, an initiative jointly with the International Lead Association to raise awareness about the importance of lead batteries as a key resource for sustainable, essential, reliable, safe and sustainable energy and storage resources.
