The Ford Focus is a compact car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Ford Motor Company since 1998. Designed under Alex 2000 Alex Trotman's Alex 2000 plan, which aims to globalize model development and sell one vehicle compact around the world, the Focus is primarily designed by Ford's German and UK teams in Europe.

This original Focus RS is only available in Europe.
For decades, in the US, small cars like the Focus are seen as a tool to attract younger buyers looking for inexpensive basic transportation and to improve the average fuel economy of automakers' fleets to meet U.S. federal standards. Ford is said to be unconcerned about losing money on Focus so the company could sell gas guzzlers for big profits. However, new sales from the new Focus have been able to maintain lower or lower discount incentive levels than many of the competing vehicles in its class. Many people in the industry see cars like Focus as 'car compliance' because of their role in helping to lower the average fuel economy of the company's fleet to meet today's fuel economy standards. The second generation Focus was launched at the Paris Motor Show on September 23, 2004 as a three and five-door hatchback and estate, although the new car was previewed, in the form of a 4-door sedan, as the "Focus Concept" developed by Ford. Europe at the Beijing Motor Show in mid-2004.
The basic suspension design, which contributed a lot to the success of Mk 1, was carried largely unchanged from its predecessor. In 2005, Ford released the MK.II version of the Ford Focus sports division, Focus ST. This one produces 225 bph (168 kW) and can reach 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) only 6.4 seconds, and a top speed of 152 mph (245 m/h), uses 2.5 liters, turbocharged engine five cylinders from Volvo.
2007-2008 saw the facelift version introduced, featuring the philosophy of Ford Kinetic Design. Major changes include new bonnet with more folds, removal of all molds along the door and sides, new rear retractable rear lights, and larger bottom trapezoidal grille.
In 2009, the new Focus RS was launched, with a modified version of the 2.5-liter engine found at ST.
North America
For the North American market, development follows a separate path. Since debuting at the 2007 North American International Auto Show, the restored 2008-2011 generation is available as a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan; hatchback and cart stopped. The interior is redesigned, including a new chair, a new dashboard design with a dashboard overhead message center, ambient lighting, dashboard panel that simulates brushed aluminum, and a sound-controlled audio/Bluetooth Sync system. Also included in the redesign is the support beam behind the dashboard for extra structural stiffness.
Although informally considered a second generation, it was never officially named as such by Ford because its platform is the same as the first generation.

Third generation (2011-2018)
For the third generation, Ford reunited international and North American models with the release of international Mk3 worldwide. The previous North American version was discontinued, and new models were launched simultaneously in North America and Europe in early 2011, both starting production by the end of 2010.

Ford debuted the all-electric Ford Focus Electric at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011 to compete with Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt. Shipping for fleet customers in the United States begins in December 2011, and a release to retail customers takes place in late May 2012. Electric cars are available only in California, New York, and New Jersey, in limited quantities. The European release is scheduled for late 2012.
In the summer of 2012 Ford launches the Focus ST which has 252 bph (188 kW) of the 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine.

The all-new Focus will head to Australia from the Saarlouis Ford plant in Germany, rather than the Rayong factory in Thailand where the current LZ model is sourced and where LW MKII is sourced. Focus will be offered with the company's CoPilot360 level 2 autonomous driving system. It features an adaptive cruise control with speed sign recognition, lane centering and stop and go functions. Focus also offers full LED spotlight matrices with predictive curves, and sign lights. On the Focus side of the technology, there is full automatic parking, steering wheel assistance that can help drivers control unavoidable accidents by braking, Wi-Fi hotspots with the all-new FordPass Connect system, where owners can use smartphones to start remotely, unlock and lock, check vehicle stats and location. The line-up model is predicted to follow the current line-up with the 'Trend' base, ST-Line based 'Sport' and the topping range of 'Titanium' variants. Focus Wagon is not planned to come to Australia for model year 2018.

Rallying

A Focus was incorporated into the Swedish Touring Championship 2006 season.
Ford Focus ST made its debut in the 2009 British Caring Championship season, with Arena Motorsport. During the second season, the car uses liquid liquefied gas, taking the first BTCC victory for this fuel-powered car at Brands Hatch. In 2011, Arena (also known as Team AON) shifted to the newer Focus Mk3, while MotorBase Performance pushed the ST version. Both cars have engines, built by Next Generation Car engine rules. Arena Motorsport enters two Ford Focus Mk3s in the 2012 World Touring Championship season for Tom Chilton and James Nash. The best result is the 6th place by Nash at Race of Morocco.
In 2008 Ford South Africa included two modified Focus ST models into Class T (provided for turbocharged production vehicles) from the local Bridgestone Car Production Championship (basically a Touring Car formula). They got the Class T driver title in 2009 and 2011.
The car was a success at the 2013 Touring China Car Championship, and won its class at Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hours 2014. The Focus that sped at Bathurst 12 Hours 2014 was powered by a 5.0 L Ford Coyote V8 engine.
