History

In 1956, a group of tire retailers formed Cordovan Associates. The company changed its name to Tire & amp; Battery Corporation in 1972. Only eleven years later, after much success, Tire & amp; Battery Corporation becomes public property (NASDAQ: TBCC). In 2005, the Company was purchased by Sumitomo Corporation of America (SCOA). SCOA is the largest subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, one of Japan's premier integrated business and investment business. In 2018, Michelin North America and Sumitomo Corporation of America 'combine the North American tire distribution of each and related service operations in a 50-50 joint venture agreement. The joint venture creates NTW (National Tire Wholesale) a combination of TCi Michelin and TBC Carroll Tire which forms the second largest player in the wholesale tire distribution market in the United States.

Company Operations

TBC Corporation is one of the largest nationally integrated tire marketers for automotive replacement markets with more than 10,500 employees across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Company's retail operations include franchises and tire and automotive service centers operated by the Company under the brand name: Tire Kingdom Service CentersÃ,®, Merchant's Tire & amp; Auto Centers®, NTB Ban and Service Center, Big O TiresÃ,®, and MidasÃ,®.

TBC markets wholesale to regional tire chains and distributors serving independent tire dealers across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Through the NTW (National Tire Wholesale) distribution center, the Company also markets directly to independent tire dealers throughout the United States. NTW (National Tire Wholesale) sells exclusive and national brands from 50 distribution centers.

The TB Brand Division represents 15 brands of tire ownership across North America, including Multi-Mile, Sigma, Cordovan, Vanderbilt, Jetzon, Telstar, Eldorado, Sumitomo, Power King, Harvest King, Sailun, Akuret, Sentinel, National and Delta and specialize in passenger, commercial, agricultural and special tires. All are distributed to independent retailers and wholesalers throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The company also has RO Writer, a fully customizable store manager software system used by independently owned automotive repair, oil change and tire shop to streamline operations. Corporate-controlled brands include:

  • TB brands that produce and distribute tires for sale in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
  • NTW (National Wholesale Tire), TCi and Carroll Tire, the 4th and 5th largest wholesale distributors, respectively, are combined to form the 2nd largest wholesale distributor in the US, under NTW in April 2018.
  • Midas, a network of franchised automotive services, is one of the world's largest automotive service providers in more than 2,000 stores in 13 countries, including nearly 1,200 in the United States and Canada. Midas was purchased by TBC Corporation in 2012.
  • Big O Tyres, North America's largest franchise operation for car tires, with nearly 400 stores primarily located in the Western and Central West States. Big O Tyres was purchased by TBC Corporation in 1996.
  • Tire Kingdom was purchased by TBC Corporation in 2000. Tire provides a wide range of automotive and tire service at over 180 retail locations throughout Florida.
  • Ban and Auto Merchants were purchased by TBC Corporation in 2003. The Merchant Tire Service and Service Center provides a wide range of automotive and tire service at over 120 retail locations.
  • National Tires and Batteries, acquired by TBC Corporation in 2003 from Sears, Roebuck & amp; Company. The Ban and Service Center of NTB provides a range of automotive maintenance and tire services at over 400 retail locations.
  • R.O. Writer, is a customizable shop management software system currently used by more than 5,000 automotive, oil change, and independently owned tire shops.
