Motorola Razr - Wikipedia
src: upload.wikimedia.org

The Motorola Razr (style RAZR , pronounced "razor"; sometimes also Siliqua ) is a series of phones by Motorola, part of the 4LTR line. They were first developed in July 2003 and released on the market in the third quarter of 2004. V3 was the first phone released in the series, followed soon after by the much better V3i with collaboration with Apple for iTunes to be built. in.

Due to its striking appearance and its slim profile, it was initially marketed as an exclusive fashion phone, but in a year, the price was lowered and it was very successful, selling over 50 million units in July 2006. Over the four-year Razr period, the V3 model sold more than 130 million units, became the world's best-selling clamshell phone to date.

The Razr series was marketed until July 2007, when the Motorola Razr2 series was successfully released. Marketed as a slimmer and more stable Razr design, Razr 2 includes more features, improved phone audio quality, and touch sensitive external displays. The new models are V8, V9, and V9m. However, Razr 2 sales are not as good as the original, with consumers moving to competing products. Because Motorola is relying heavily on Razr and its derivatives and is slow to develop new products in emerging markets for feature-rich touchscreens and 3G phones, Razr's appeal is declining, leaving Motorola behind behind Samsung and LG in market share for mobile phones. Motorola's strategy of seizing market share by selling tens of millions of cheap Razr cut margins and resulted in huge losses in the cellular division.

In October 2011, Motorola generated the Razr brand for the Android smartphone line; Razr Droid for Verizon Wireless, otherwise known simply as "Motorola RAZR" on other networks, the enhanced Droid Razr Maxx variant. The new "Razr" line shares the trademark thinness as well as the tapered angle stylized to the original.

V3

The V3 was released in Q3 2004. The team from V3 collected a number of design options that set the device apart from the competition. The phone has the thinnest profile on the clamshell set, using an electroluminescent keypad made of a single metal wafer and using an industry-standard mini mini USB port for data, battery chargers and headphones, all in an aluminum body with an external glass display. It sold 130 million units over its lifetime, becoming the current best-selling clamshell phone.

A complaint was made about the accumulated dust accusation between the V3 plastic screen and the LCD glass, possibly via an external side button. Access to the dust requires a peeled plastic cover, usually followed by a replacement cover.

Black Matte Version

The black version was produced to be distributed in the 77th Academy Awards gift bag, and was released in early May 2005. While the distribution was initially limited to certain North American carriers, black V3 is widely available elsewhere.

The pink version

The first pink version was released in October 2005, and in June 2006, available in the US from T-Mobile (such as Razr V3 Magenta, after T-Mobile - and its parent, the color company Deutsche Telekom, but called Razr V3 Pink in other countries, other T-Mobile networks), Verizon, Cingular Wireless, Suncom Wireless, Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems (each in different colors). It is available in Canada from Bell, Rogers Wireless and Telus, and in the United Kingdom from T-Mobile and Carphone Warehouse. $ 25 sale from Rogers Pink V3 goes to Rethink Breast Cancer. It is also available in all countries served by Movistar and Claro (Telcel).

MS500

Another version of the phone was released in the Republic of Korea (South Korea) on June 1, 2005. This version has a physical appearance similar to the original V3 but not GSM, it is a CDMA phone for SK Telecom. This is Razr's first CDMA version with no expandable memory, Bluetooth and SIM cards, as the Motorola Korea system is able to generate its own models before the GSM release worldwide. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, video recording, 80 MB of internal memory and various UI features, such as mobile blogs, Yoga graphic books, Diet diaries and lottery number generators for the Wellness theme. It also comes in colors other than the ones mentioned above. Black, pink, and lime models are seen around Korea. On February 8, 2006, Motorola Korea released its own slide-phone model for Razr named Z model name MS600. Unlike most other versions, the MS500 version is packed with a charging dock and has three metal terminals on the back side just below the battery cover.

Also, as an add-on to MS600, MS500 Lime Razr has been circulating in South Korea since October 2006 along with Motorola KRZR Black and Motorola KRZR Fire (Red).

V3re

Razr V3re (also known as V3_06) is an updated GSM model to support EDGE and Crystal Talk technologies. It's almost identical to the original V3, it does not have a memory card slot and with a 4x VGA camera. This can be identified with a slightly larger position under the Motorola logo when it is closed, the Motorola logo is black on the battery cover instead of the metallic silver logo in V3 and the software version starting with R3442A. It is available in North America from T-Mobile, AT & amp; T in the US, Rogers/Fido in Canada and Vivo in Brazil (using frequencies 850 MHz and 1800 MHz, this one with the old Telemig Celular, Vivo company) It is also available in three colors; Pink Orchid, Silver, and Stone Gray. The contents in the box include a quick start manual and its charger.

V3r/V3t

V3r and V3t are models sold by T-Mobile, AT & amp; T (formerly Cingular), and Canadian cellular services such as Rogers Wireless. These models are almost identical to V3 and V3i, except they use Motorola's Digital Audio Player rather than iTunes k. T-Mobile's V3r offers Voice Notes feature that allows to forward your audio recording to voicemail as the only storage method. However, the publicly available SEEM edit allows the user to enable the hidden Sound Recording feature. Sound Recording allows you to save the sound recording locally to the phone's memory. Currently, Sound Recording is limited to less than two minutes of audio recording and saves the recording generated as a.avr format file on partitions in the phone's memory. Conversely, current SEEM edits may expand the maximum size of video recordings.

The T-Mobile V3t phone memory is a total of 10.0 MB, including all system files. This space is divided unequally into partitions a and c. The memory on partition a is larger than 2 MB and contains system files, including some branding images for phone operators. Partition A also contains the Avr structure for the hidden Voice Recording feature. Partition c is larger than 5.5 MB and stores user data, including images, sound, video, text notes, calendar entries, phonebook entries, Java applets and web cache. V3r and V3t phones sold by T-Mobile are equipped with Java-based software that supports T-Mobile's "MyFaves" tariff plan. Third party publicly available tools may remove this Java software and other systems or locked files to free memory for other uses.

Rogers Wireless Canada also carries them at a cheaper price than the original Razrs.

V3i

The V3i was announced in November 2005, and addresses some of the errors of the original Razr V3, including a better (1.23 megapixel) camera with 8x digital zoom, enhanced external and internal display, also support for microSD cards up to a maximum of 512 Mb. The V3i is functionally very close to the Motorola V635 model. V3i comes in two versions: one with iTunes and another with Motorola's Digital Audio Player (DAP). The iTunes version of the phone has a limit of 50 or 100 ("cap") restrictions depending on where the phone model is made. DAP Motorola does not suffer this hat; However, it takes longer to load and use V3 batteries at a speed much faster than iTunes. The phone's display has also been subtly altered. Announced on December 8, 2005 that Motorola has been working with Dolce & amp; Gabbana to produce the Razr V3t Gold Special Edition. Only 1,000 have been created and sold at a premium price. The launch of the V3i phone comes with a battery supplied "BR50". Since then technology has evolved; Motorola has launched a much better and more durable battery, "BR56". Recommended initial cost of "BR56" for more than eight hours to get the benefits.

On June 1, 2006, Motorola and Dolce & amp; Gabbana once again released their limited edition gold phone. This model includes mobile phone holder D & amp; G, signature leather pouch, Bluetooth headphone, and FM earphone. It's available from all major Motorola retailers and select D & amp; G boutique.

V3i is available in the following colors:

  • Silver Quartz (main color)
  • Gunmetal Gray
  • Gold Plate (special edition DG version only, see above)
  • Old Blue
  • Maroon
  • Violet
  • Orchids
  • Black for (PRODUCT) RED (special edition to join RED (PRODUCT) initiative)
  • Platinum
  • Red
  • Chrome Chrome
  • Chrome Purple
  • Celery (some companies call it Lime Green)

Motorola Razr V3i was released to most of the world market in Q4 2005-2006. In the US, the phone was released via Cingular Wireless on September 6, 2006, with a new activation price of $ 299, while T-Mobile released Dolce & amp; Gabbana V3i exclusively in the United States.

V3c

On November 21, 2005, the CDMA2000 Razr version, known as Razr V3c, is available to Alltel and SaskTel users. Verizon Wireless followed suit on December 7, 2005. Unlike models for Alltel and other carriers, Verizon V3c has an exclusive user interface and disables, in software, Bluetooth file transfer capabilities (called OBEX). (Although OBEX is supported in V3C Verizon.02 firmware version, and version.04 if flash-upgraded directly from.02, skip any.03 installs.)

In January 2006, Canadian Telus, Bell Mobility and Aliant Mobility, Venezuelan Movistar and Movilnet operators, and Brazilian Vivo began carrying the V3c. In April 2006, Cricket Communications began selling V3C. This handset is also available for Metro PCS. Razr V3c supports CDMA 2000 1xRTT and 1xEV-DO 3rd generation wireless technology. This is the technology that Verizon Wireless uses to provide VAST multimedia services.

The scope of this feature, however, may not be available everywhere. US and Alaska Mobile Communications Systems, Alaska CDMA provider, also carries V3c. It also has about 41.2 MB of internal memory, although only about 36 MB is available for use. V3c does not support expansion with memory card.

The original version of V3c is gray charcoal, and a pink version called Satin Pink (different from GSM Magenta/Pink and AT & amp; T Cotton Candy version) was released by Verizon Wireless in January 2006. Telus Mobility, Bell, Aliant, and Vivo also carries a pink version of the V3C.

V3m

V3m is the CDMA version of Razr. As an upgrade to V3c, features a microSD card slot for up to 2 GB memory expansion, long battery life, and 40 MB of internal memory. The V3m comes in silver, pink and red colors although the original release as well as the model that was once available on the Sprint CDMA network featured a gray color from V3C. For a limited time, Alltel and US Cellular offer Red Fire color. This model is not available in the UK because they use GSM instead of CDMA, although V3x is sold there.

Because many Sprint customers are complaining about battery life that is less than expected, Motorola offers Sprint free high-capacity batteries that contact Motorola's customer service channel with complaints of battery life.

Verizon Wireless Version

Verizon Wireless disables certain features on V3m including the ability to transfer data files to and from the phone via Bluetooth (a special protocol called OBEX). Verizon also blocks the transfer of most data via USB, such as ringtones. The phone also runs the Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW), which signs every application to the Electronic Serial Number phone, or ESN, preventing the use of free apps (including Back Up Assistant). The equivalent models offered by competitors (such as V3t by T-Mobile) still retain these features.

V3m on Verizon will play. WMA format music files are placed in the my_music directory of removable memory chips, but even if the phone receives a 2 GB memory chip, only a portion (~ 600 Mbytes) can be accessed by the music player. The stereo headphone playback can be done with a miniature 3.5 mm USB phone jack adapter that contains the appropriate interface circuitry; adapters designed for hands-free handsets may not work.

Verizon also installed their own user interface instead of the default Motorola interface they used in the past. This has led many Verizon Wireless users to use their own way to restore their phones back to original Motorola conditions, or to Verizon phones that have some disabled features enabled. Newer Verizon versions of mobile phones have improved and unlimited video capture features, a more manageable menu system and the ability to customize the external display. The phone still can not sync to a computer via USB cable for anything other than charging, except software like Bitpim is used to access files.

Red V3m

Partnering with Motorola, US Cellular and Sprint has released a Red Razr Special Product and Bluetooth H500 headset to help support the Global Fund program that positively impacts the lives of women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. Also in the UK there are Red Products V3i, SLVR, and Bluetooth H3 headset.

V3x

Announced in March 2005, V3x was formerly known as Motorola V1150. Externally, it seems to be a larger V3, albeit with enhancements like a 2.0 megapixel camera. Internally, this is very different, using different microprocessors, chipsets, Nvidia GoForce 4200 GPUs, and radio ICs. As a 3G product, its feature set is much closer to mobile phones like the Motorola V980, e.g., Two cameras, not a single camera typical of GSM or CDMA products.

Yet one of the main attractions of the Razr V3, the fact that it is so thin, is no longer present in V3x; although it is the smallest phone available in the UK on 3 networks at the time of release, compared to other contemporary phones, it is just average sized. It won "Best 3GSM handset" at 3GSM World Congress 2006.

M702iG

In Japan, the 3G version (W-CDMA) NTT DoCoMo from V3x was released in late August 2006. This version has IrDA.

V3xx

Announced in July 2006, V3xx is a 3G Category 5/6 (3.6 Mbit/s) HSDPA and EDGE supported handset. The interface is very similar to the compact V3i design, but incorporates an enhanced feature set with a 1.3 megapixel camera instead of 1.23 megapixels, 50 MB of internal memory, support for microSD and Bluetooth A2DP. Like the V3x, it also comes with a secondary screen and a higher resolution 240x320 pixel (QVGA) screen. V3xx was made available for international purchase on 3 networks in November 2006, and is now available on AT & amp; T (formerly Cingular) for free with a new 2 year contract. The secondary camera is not available in the US. The built-in GPU, manufactured by Nvidia (GoForce 4800 model) is able to render 3D images through OpenGL ES. This phone includes a much faster CPU as well, making the performance of all the features, including 3G/Data much more real-time. Delaying a general delay to a slower V3 platform is lost. With the new CPU, V3xx Phone also includes a fast USB V2.0 to download ringtones/images/mp3 files quickly. The old V3 is limited to USB V1.1.

Unlike V3 and V3i which are both quad band GSM, and work equally well on any GSM network in the world, V3xx comes in many variants depending on the local frequency band used for GSM and UMTS/HSDPA. V3xx North America is the Tri band (850 MHz/1800 MHz/1900 MHz) GSM and dual band (850 MHz/1900 MHz) UMTS/HSDPA, while the versions sold in Europe and Asia are tri band (900 MHz/1800 MHz/1900 MHz) GSM and single band (2.1 GHz) UMTS/HSDPA. This may be due to the need to adjust the internal components of V3xx into a small casing; in early 2007 the global mobile phone that supports quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA is much larger than V3xx.

The M702iS version was released as NTT DoCoMo version of V3xx which does not have GSM, HSDPA but IrDA.

Motorola Razr maxx (or MotoRazr maxx) was released in late 2006 in Europe and on 27 April 2007 elsewhere. Maxx is an upgrade from the popular V3x and is the second Motorola 3.5G HSDPA phone after Motorola Razr V3xx. Though almost identical to the V3x used and features, maxx supports additional external touch keys for music control and retains the original Razr V3 size.

Telstra Australia

The handset has been released on Telstra NextG network with the original name "Motorola Razr maxx V6". This phone has compatibility with both the original 2100 MHz band and the newer NextG band, 850 MHz. Therefore it should also be able to roaming to the network AT & amp; T 850 MHz HSDPA. The front of the phone is branded with the Telstra logo and the presentation graph on the screen has a Telstra theme. This phone was released by Telstra for direct purchase in late 2006 at a price of around A $ 800. However, this phone has experienced hardware and software reliability issues that are well documented in the Australian telephone discussion forum. It has not sold well yet and Telstra now has a large inventory of unsold stock. The phone was repackaged in late 2007 and sold on a $ 250 prepaid plan, locked for use only with Telstra SIM cards. Many postpaid phones sold by Telstra in 2007 were accidentally locked.

Hutchison 3

The handset has been released on 3 Hutchison networks with the original name "Motorola Razr maxx V6". The back of the phone is branded with 3 logos, also has a customized start screen, internal memory increases to 60 MB, the phone's activation screen is changed, and the on-screen presentation graph has 3 themes.

maxx Ve

Verizon Wireless

Razr maxx Ve is available exclusively in the United States for Verizon Wireless customers. The maxx Ve EV-DO feature is not HSDPA and CDMA2000 1x instead of GSM/UMTS.

The Razr maxx is a new 3G HSDPA and EDGE handset which is preceded by Razr V3x. Originally known as "maxx V6," it was released in Europe at the end of 2006. In addition Motorola has released a picture on its Verizon website. The original version has a 2.0 megapixel camera with LED flash, a large 2.2 inch (56 mm) screen with a 240x320 QVGA display (like V3xx) and 50 megabytes of internal storage. While getting enhanced featureset significantly, it will retain the same slim profile of the original Razr V3. The key design is a glass fascia with external sensitive touch controls for MP3.

The phone is available in Australia from Telstra on their G 850 MHz Next G network.

Verizon Wireless version became available on April 24, 2007.

Verizon Wireless version, Razr maxx Ve, does not have a second camera on the inside of the phone. Instead, there is a shutter button to focus and take pictures. Ve displays the Verizon menu system, but it is said to support the OBEX profile, unlike the current Verizon Razr V3m.

Cultural impact

Being the thinnest phone during its release in 2004, Razr easily stands out among other phone models. This is one of the most popular phones since the first release, which has been seen in the hands of celebrities and business people alike until the advent of smartphones, often seen in reruns of movies and TV shows.

It's also a token cut in the popular modern board game Monopoly Here & amp; Now .

In popular culture

Razr was identified as a "fashion" product and an iconic phone in the late 2000s. Razr is used on several television shows and is featured in several movies. In the 2006 movie A Good Year, Russell Crowe's character Max Skinner uses BlackBerry while working as a high-flying London financier, but chooses a black Razr to accompany his relaxed life in the countryside of Provence. The famous TV show is the third season of the TV series Lost where Jack Shephard uses Razr (an important plot point that links the chronology of the episode), HBO hit sitcom Entourage has a special character Ari Gold uses it, and the United States reaches series Burn Notification where Michael Westen used Razr until 2009. In Season 5 of 24, President Charles Logan used Razr as his personal phone. Contestants on NBC's adventure reality show "Treasure Hunters" are given Razr for communication with the host and each other throughout the season. Red Product Version Razr was launched by Oprah Winfrey and Bono for charity. The gray V3 was also used by Jeremy Clarkson on the BBC Top Gear during censoring when he got a call early in the show. Even in 2012, Razr is used as a special agent CIA Rex Matheson in season 4 Torchwood . It was popularized in South India through the movie Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu , in which Kamal Haasan was seen using the phone. In the Counter-Strike game: Source, Leet characters can be seen holding one. In Prison Break Series, Alexander Mahone uses Motorola V3. Also, in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, the characters played by Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci use Moto Razr phones.
