Design and function

Serving as one of the first products developed by the company after the end of an exclusive manufacturing deal with Monster Cable Products, Beats Pill was designed by Robert Brunner's Ammunition Design Group studio, and carries a capsule-based design around 7.7 inches (20 cm) in length. Its appearance is characterized by curved surfaces and gloss finishing. Speakers contain minimal controls; the logo serves as a multi-purpose button to start and stop the track, and the only other key is the volume button and the power button.

Birth control pills use Bluetooth to connect to devices (such as smartphones), and also support near field communication for device pairing. It also includes 3.5mm audio input and output jack. The Pill refills the Micro USB port, and comes with a USB adapter. This device also includes a microphone so it can be used as a speakerphone. This pill is also an aptX certified device. In 2013, the latest version of the Pill, Beats Pill 2.0 , was released. New models have longer battery life, ports for charging other USB devices, the ability to pair Pills together with near-field communications (NFC) to play the same audio individually either, or handling left and right stereo channels in sequence, standing characters, and a new "XL" larger version.

The Beats Pill , unveiled in October 2015, as the first revision for products released under Apple Inc. ownership. Pill is slightly larger than the previous model, and carries a fresh design with the volume control mounted above and the Beats logo button. Pill speaker hardware is redesigned to improve sound quality. Pill uses the Apple Lightning connector as a USB substitute, and can charge iOS powered products from its battery - which has an enhanced capacity rated for 12 hours of use in a single charge. The Pill has a companion mobile app for iOS and Android devices; this app will be able to pair multiple speakers (NFC is no longer in use), allowing multiple users to play alternative music on one Pill ("DJ mode"), and display battery capacity.

On June 3, 2015, Apple Inc. voluntarily recall all Beats Pill XL models, arguing that in some rare cases, the battery can become overheated and burning.

Promotions

Playing the design, the initial marketing for Pill uses the tagline "Just what the doctor ordered". Like other Beats products, birth control pills are promoted primarily through celebrity endorsements and product placements in pop music videos, such as Britney Spears' "Whore Work", where speakers are used as vomiting balls to dancers in BDSM-themed scenes. In April 2013, the limited edition, the pink version of the pills version of Nicki Minaj was released, as introduced in his video for "High School".

Ads for birth control pills for RadioShack featuring Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were released in mid-2013; repeat the music video for "Flee". It's a complaint in the UK, because some viewers find it unpleasant; however, the Advertising Standard Authority decides in October 2013 that "overall, ads do not exhibit sustained, overtly sexual, or provocative behavior".

After the acquisition of the Beats by Apple in August 2014, a new ad was released featuring Pill characters, in which Siri refused to invite them to attend the party hosted by Dr. Dre to celebrate the deal.

Reception

Beats Pil meets mixed reviews; while praise is welcome for its hardware design, ease of use, and volume level that can be generated, the Pill is particularly criticized for its audio quality and price. The magazine's PC specifically criticized its handling of bass, concluding that it offers a unique form factor and doubles as a good speakerphone, but it does not offer sufficient sound quality to justify a $ 200 price.Although you may get a loud and clear listening experience on one track, the next song will probably distract and force you to change the volume just because it has a bit more bass. " Wired feels that the pills difficulty with the bass is ironic , given that the headphones Beats by Dr. Dre has emphasized low-end as its "sonic signature".

CNET is equally mixed, noting unique features such as "flashy design", NFC support, the ability to function as a pass-through device for other audio systems, and "relatively detailed sound (note the use of the word" relative ") with respectable bass as compared to other small speakers in its class. "However, the issue of connectivity is noticed with devices running iOS 6, and the review score is then revised from 3.5 to only 3 out of 5, citing the introduction of competing products that offer equivalent or better sound quality and higher prices lower than birth control pills.

However, with this new birth control pill, reviewers indicate better support for speaker quality. The Verge calls it "a refinement on the recognizable Beats Pill" and not a "radical redesign". He also said that the new birth control pill is the best-sounding speaker of the Pill lineup. Similarly, Wired magazine shows that new speaker sounds "much, much better.
