Chevrolet Spark is a city car manufactured by GM Korea, originally marketed prominently as Daewoo Matiz . It has been available only as a five-door hatchback.
Daewoo Matiz's first generation was launched in 1998 by General Motors Korea's South Korean GM division, formerly known as Daewoo Motors, replacing Daewoo Tico. After the company General Motors took over Daewoo Motors in 2002, the company was increasingly marketed under the Chevrolet badge. The second generation model was introduced in 2005, with the third generation launched in 2010.
The all-electric version, Chevrolet Spark EV , was released in the US on select markets in California and Oregon in June 2013. Spark EV is the first electric passenger car marketed by General Motors since EV1 was discontinued in 1999.

Daewoo Matiz production began in 1998 and sold in South Korea and many European markets codenamed M100. The exterior design is based on Lucciola, the Fiat Cinquecento concept 1993 by Italdesign Giugiaro that has been rejected by Fiat. The 0.8 liter petrol engine and transmission are carried from Daewoo Tico, but now use the multipoint fuel injection system. Engineering is done at Daewoo's Worthing Technical Center in the UK. The car became Daewoo's best-selling model in Europe and in India for the next four years.
It was developed on the basis of Daewoo Tico, a version under the Suzuki Alto license, with which Tico and Matiz share the mechanics and suspensions. From this origin, the shape has a distinct narrow width, imposed by Japan's "Kei car" tax category, which frees from the need to state that adequate parking is available for the vehicle.
The Matiz was originally launched with just 0.8 liter three direct engines. It develops a maximum power of 51 hp (38 kW), maximum torque of 68.5 N m (51 lb. Ft) and has a combined consumption of 6.4 l/100 km (44 mpg ). It has a top speed of 144 km/h (89 mph) and can reach from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 17 seconds. This machine was developed from the Tico unit by Tickford, a British company based in Milton Keynes. Tickford Connection is recognized in brochures distributed in English showrooms.
It was released primarily with three trim levels: E, S and SE. The latter has air conditioning, wheel cover, body-colored bumper, rear spoiler, fog and stereo lights, with optional features such as roof rails, power steering, central locking, electric front windows, ABS and driver airbags. In certain markets it is also available with automatic transmissions.
M150 ( 2000-2005)
The facelift was designed at Daewoo's Worthing Technical Center in England and was introduced in South Korea in late 2000, and exported from 2001. The front-end structure was modified to accommodate four-cylinder engines, despite the introduction of this engine, the 1.0-unit S-Tec liter, was postponed until after Daewoo's takeover by General Motors in 2002.
The M150 is still produced by GM-Uzbekistan (formerly UzDaewooAuto) in Uzbekistan. The car was launched into the Russian market as Ravon Matiz by 2016 but was soon stopped. In South Korea and Japan, the updated Matiz is sold under the name Daewoo Matiz II .
Lechi
In China the car was sold as Chevrolet Lechi. It stays in production until 2012, when an updated version is introduced as Baojun Lechi. It should be offered under both Chevrolet and Baojun brands during the transition period. Lechi has also received certain powertrain updates, making the car economical enough to qualify for subsidies and tax breaks from the Chinese government.

Copy controversy
The Chery QQ3, later known as Chery QQ, became the industry's copyright center and intellectual property controversy, as General Motors claimed the car was a copy of Daewoo Matiz. GM executives indicate the level of design duplication, noting for example that the QQ and the doors of the Spark can be exchanged without modification.
GM China Group indicates two vehicles "share a very identical body structure, exterior design, interior design and main components" MotorAuthority.com and Car and Driver call QQ as "carbon copy", while > International Herald Tribune , in a 2005 article, calling it a clone.
The Detroit News reported that "the dispute reflects the confusion, risks, and ambitions in China's new auto industry, where global carmakers are battling the new rich people for what part may be the largest car market in world."

In 2005, Matiz received a substantial modification ( M200 ), previewed by the concept car Chevrolet M3X shown at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. The upper body is significantly revised based on again on the design of Italdesign Giugiaro, the updated S-Tec engine and the drag coefficient of derived cars, resulting in better fuel economy. The interior was also significantly revised, one important feature of this car is the cluster of instruments mounted in the center. The platform is also revised, with a reverse-beam suspension system replacing the previous 3-link beam shaft, and the front suspension utilizes a cast instead of pressed and fabricated, a lower control arm.
In 2008, the 800cc engine was revised to fall below the 120g/km level, thus qualifying for the UK £ Â £ £ road tax band and no London congestion charge.
In Europe sold under the name of Chevrolet Matiz and Chevrolet Spark . In Italy there is an LPG version called Chevrolet Matiz Eco Logic . The Matiz Eco Logic was built from 2007 to 2010 in more than 60,000 vehicles by BRC Gas Equipment in Cherasco, Cuneo (Italy).
In South Korea, where it is only sold with 800 cc machines and after the introduction of Matiz Matiz (Matiz Creative), Matiz M200 is renamed to Matiz Classic .
It was sold in over 2.3 million units worldwide during the first 10 years of production.
In 2011, VIDAMCO Vietnam produced Matiz M200 as a "Chevrolet Spark Lite" in full knock-down (CKD) form at Hanoi production facility.
In India, the Indian manufacturer GM India produces two special editions of this generation: the Chevrolet Spark LPG, a version equipped with a sequential injection LPG type kit, launched on World Environment Day in New Delhi, and Chevrolet Spark Muzic, introduced in 2009.
Models remain in Chevrolet's offerings in Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and Colombia (as well as in some other South American countries), where it is also produced.

Third generation (M300; 2009-2015)
The redesign of Matiz (code name M300 ) was launched in 2009 and is based on the 2007 Chevrolet Beat concept car. Although it is sold globally like the Chevrolet Spark, in India this model retains the Beat name of the concept car, because the Spark generation both continue to be sold in this market. Prior to the elimination of the Daewoo 2011 marque in South Korea, the third-generation Spark is marketed as Daewoo Matiz Creative .

The Chevrolet Beat was unveiled at the 2007 New York International Auto Show along with two other concept vehicles, Trax and Groove. The Beat is a three-door hatchback concept, which comes from Daewoo Kalos. Built in India, and designed by GM Daewoo in South Korea. It's powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to an automatic transmission.
This version is featured in the Michael Bay Movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as a Skids with GM Trax mini-SUV. The Beat concept markets the exterior paint job of Vertigo Green with the same color brought to the interior. The profile is high on the back and tapers down evenly to the front of the grille. The front light that looks extends from the bottom of the grille to the base of the windshield is an LED type. The 17-inch wheels hardly hide the appropriate disc brake green paint. The twin back lights that extend up into the backlight are also LEDs.
In early 2007, GM conducted a poll examining the relative popularity of the Beat, Trax, and Groove concepts on the Chevrolet website, with the Beat receiving nearly 50% of the vote, which ultimately determined the car that made it into production.
GM features a prototype woodie version of the upcoming Chevrolet Spark for the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
Production
GM presented the pre-production version of the Chevrolet Beat carrying the Chevrolet Spark name plate at the 2009 North American International Automotive Exhibition. The production version was announced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show 2009, but only the Beat concept was shown at the time. Production of Chevrolet Spark was launched at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. It became available in Europe in the first quarter of 2010, followed by other markets around the world, with US sales beginning in early 2012. Commercial production of Chevrolet Beat 5 doors starting from December 15, 2009 , in Halol, Gujarat, India. Launched in India on January 5, 2010, during Auto Expo New Delhi, India.

The Holden version, named Barina Spark, was revealed at the Australian Australian Motor Show 2010 in Sydney in October.
With the M300, the original Suzuki platform was replaced by GM Global Small Vehicles platform, developed by GM Daewoo engineer.
In North America, Spark was first shipped to GM dealers in Mexico for the 2012 model year, but did not replace Chevrolet Matiz (formerly Pontiac G2 Matiz), which was sold until 2014. The 2013 United States Chevrolet Spark went in production on April 16, 2012, and arrived in dealerships in August 2012. For the year 2014 in North America, automatic transmission is Jatco M4M-CVT7 Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and final drive ratio lowered to 3.75. The CVT provides better overall fuel mileage than the previous 4 automatic speeds, and changing the final drive ratio from the previous 4,145 reduced engine noise and improved fuel economy on the highway while increasing noise and reducing fuel mileage in the city. Industry sources have commented on ongoing reliability issues with CVT Jatco transmission.

Defeat diesel
General Motors launched a diesel version of Chevrolet Beat in the Indian car market on July 25, 2011. The 3-cylinder turbo diesel engine, 936 cc produces 62.5 PS and 160.26 Nm of torque, resulting in good acceleration and pick-up. The 1.0 L, 936 cc diesel engine allows the car to reach 100 km/h in 16 seconds and a top speed of 143 km/h. Chevrolet Beat Diesel offers 24kpl (56 mpg) mileage according to ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) report. This machine is based on Fiat Multijet diesel technology.

- Europe : Machine options include I4 1.0 and 1.2 liter engines. In Italy there is a LPG version of Spark called Chevrolet Spark Eco Logic with BRC Gas Equipment as of the end of 2009. This bi-fuel version is available with engines 1.0 and 1.2 (both with 16 valves) with 113 to 119 g CO 2 each emission. While LPG cars are still available in Italy, in France the LPG version is only available from 2009 to 2012.

Domino's DXP
The Domino's DXP (short for "eXPert Delivery") is Spark 2015 customized by Roush Performance for Domino's Pizza. For this car, front and rear passenger seats are removed and replaced with storage compartments that can carry 80 pizzas, two 2-liter soda bottles, and dip sauce. The left rear passenger door is converted into a heating oven that can only be opened with a fob key or button inside the driver's door frame. Production is limited to less than 200 units and once every car reaches 100,000 miles, it will retire and return to Roush, where it will be returned to the stock form and sold as Spark used. Regardless of Domino's intention to finally retire DXP and leave nothing left, some broken DXPs have been rescued by private individuals with the intention of defending them as rare cars when the rest of the fleet is retired. In October 2011, General Motors announced the production of Chevrolet Spark EV , the all-electric version of the third-generation Chevrolet Spark, with limited availability for certain markets. The production version was launched in November 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

This electric car was first powered by a 21.3 kWh Lithium iron phosphate battery pack supplied by A123 Systems. In white paper, A123 describes the difference in its nano-phosphate technology with respect to other lithium iron phosphate cells.
The 2014 production version features a 97a, kW (130Ã, hp) motor, which provides torque of 542,,? M (400Ã, lb? Ft). Spark EV can be recharged quickly to 80% capacity in 20 minutes using an optional CCS/SAE Combo Type 1 connector, and charging time increases up to about seven hours using a special 240 volt charging station or about 17 hours using a standard 120-volt household outlet.
In 2014, for model year 2015, battery pack suppliers are converted to LG Chem which results in smaller capacity packs (19 kWh) while maintaining the same EV range. The drive ratio also changed from 3.17 to 3.87 as well, with torque reduced to 443 N m (327 ft lb).

Fourth generation (M400; 2015-present)
The fourth-generation Spark was unveiled at the New York International Exhibition April 2015. It went on sale in the fourth quarter of 2015. This is closely related to Opel Karl.

Facelift
In 2018, for the 2019 model year, Spark received a mid-cycle facelift, along with Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Malibu. Changes to Spark include the new generation Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, revision of exterior styling cues, the addition of Automatic Low Speed ​​Emergency Braking (AEB) to selected models, and new exterior color options. 1LT added: Power door lock, Security system, A/MF/M stereo w/USB stereo touchscreen and additional audio input jack, Bluetooth with Stereo Streaming and app capabilities, and SIRIUS-XM Satellite Radio, audio systems mounted on steering, six speakers, and navigation controls.
2LT added: Leatherette seating surfaces, driver's seat, continuously variable transmission (CVT), and alloy wheels with black accents.
The EV is based on the 2LT model, and adds a unique alloy with a black-painted accent, replaces the I4 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission with an electric motor, fixed, 3.87 gear reduction ratio, and closing the front grill as it is fully electric.
Africa
In South Africa, General Motors of South Africa (GMSA) announced on October 2, 2010, plans to produce a new Chevrolet Spark at the Port Elizabeth plant. The second generation Spark is still on sale, despite being labeled a 'Spark Lite'.
Middle East
In Iran, Matiz is manufactured (first imported and then assembled) and is known as Daewoo Matiz. In Israel, UMI (Universal Motors Israel) announced on January 18, 2011 commencement of marketing of Chevrolet Spark 1.2L model.
