src: www.chevrolet.com

The Chevrolet Impala ( ) is a full-size car made by Chevrolet for the 1958-85, 1994-96 models and since 2000 onwards.

The Impala was the most expensive Chevrolet passenger model until 1965 and has become the best-selling car in the United States.

To debut in 1958, Impala is distinguished from other models by three symmetrical rear lights. The Caprice was introduced as the top of the Impala Sport Sedan for the 1965 model, then became a separate series positioned above the Impala in 1966, which, in turn, remained above Bel Air and Biscayne. The Impala continued as Chevrolet's most popular full-size model through the mid-1980s. Between 1994-96, Impala was revised as a 5.8 liter V8 version of the Caprice Classic sedan.

In 2000, Impala was reintroduced as a front-wheel drive mainstream Hi-Mid sedan. In February 2014, Impala 2014 was ranked # 1 among the Great Affordable Cars in the US. News & amp; World Report Rank '. When the tenth generation Impala is introduced for the 2014 model year, the ninth generation has been torn down as Impala Limited and sold only to fleet customers until 2016. In model year 2015, both versions are sold in the United States and Canada. , with Impala's current generation also being sold in the Middle East, People's Republic of China, and South Korea.

The name Impala was first used for a 1956 General Motors Motorama car show containing Corvette-like designs, especially the grille. Painted emerald green metallic, with white interior, Impala concept car featuring hardtop styling. Clare MacKichan's design team, along with designers from Pontiac, began building their basic packaging and dimensions for their 1958 General Motors "A" body in June. The first styling sketch that will directly affect the Chevrolet car was seen by General Motors Styling vice president Harley Earl in October. Seven months later, the basic design was developed.

First generation (1958)

For 1958, GM promoted their fiftieth production year, and introduced a birthday model for each brand; Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Chevrolet. The 1958 model shares a common appearance on the top model for each brand; Cadillac Eldorado Seville, Buick Roadmaster Riviera, Oldsmobile Holiday 88, Pontiac Bonneville Catalina, and Chevrolet Bel-Air Impala.

Impala was introduced for the 1958 model as the top of the Bel Air line of hardtops and convertibles. From the windshield pillar, the Bel Hel Impala 1958 differs structurally from the Chevrolet model at a lower price. The hardtop has a slightly shorter greenhouse and a longer rear deck. Impala's wheelbase is longer than the lower price model, although its overall length is identical. The interior has two-finger steering wheels and colored door panels with aluminum trim. No other series including convertible.

The 1958 Chevrolet model is longer, lower, and wider than its predecessor. The 1958 model was the first with dual headlights. The tailfins of 1957 were replaced by a highly sculpted rear fender. Impalas has three taillights on each side, while the smaller model has only two carriages. The Impalas include the cross-sectional emblem on top of the side mold, as well as bright rocker prints and fake rear spoon scoops.

Standard perimeter frame types are abandoned, replaced by units with rails arranged in elongated "X". Chevrolet claims that the new frame offers increased torsional rigidity and allows lower placement of the passenger compartment. This is a transition step between traditional construction and a fully unified body/chassis, reinforced body structures in rocker panels and firewalls. However, these frames are not effective in protecting interior structures in side impact collisions, as traditional perimeter frames.

The coil spring suspension replaced the spring leaf springs last year, and the air rising system is optional. The 283 cu di (4,640 cc) engine is the V8 standard, with ratings ranging from 185 to 290 horsepower. Block "W" (not to be confused with big-block) 348 cu at (5.700Ã, cc) Turbo-Thrust V8 is optional, producing 250 hp (190 kW), 280 hp (210 kW), or 315 hp (235 kW ). Ramjet fuel injection is available as an option for the Turbo-Fire 283 V8, which was unpopular in 1958.

A total of 55,989 Impala convertibles and 125,480 coupes built representing 15% of Chevrolet production. 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air Impala helps Chevrolet regain the number one production spot in this year's recession.

Second generation (1959-1960) Second generation >

1959 The redesigned Chevrolet Impala. Sharing bodyshells with Buick and lower class Oldsmobiles as well as with Pontiac, part of GM's economic movement, the Chevrolet wheelbase is 1-1/2Ã, inch longer. Using the new X-frame chassis, the roofline is three inches lower, the body is two inches wider, and the pavement weight is increasing. Its tail protrudes, not upward. The rear light is a great "teardrop" design on each side, and two non-functional front air intakes are added above the grille,

The Impala becomes a separate series, adding a four-door hardtop and a four-door sedan, to a two-door Sport Coupe and can be converted. Sport Coupes features a short roofline and wrapped back windows. The standard engine is I6, while the base V8 is a 283 cu carryover at (4.6 L), at 185 hp (138 kW). Optional is 283 cuÃ, in with 290 hp (220 kW) and 348 cu at (5.7Ã, L) V8 up to 335 hp (250 kW). Standards are front and rear armrests, electric clocks, double sliding sun shields, and crank operated front vents. A contoured contoured instrument panel holds a very deep gauge. A six-way power seat is a new option, such as "Speedminder", for the driver to adjust the needle at a certain speed and buzzer will be heard if pre-set is exceeded.

The 1960 Impala model returns three backlashes on each side, and a white band runs along the rear fender.

The available V8 is reduced to seven, at 283-cu in or 348-cuÃ, in displacement. The 283 cu Turbo-Fire carburetor in the V8 can have 170 or 230 hp (130 or 170 kW). The 348 cuÃ, available in 250 to 320 hp (190-240 kW) with 350Ã, hp (260Ã,kW) Super Turbo-Thrust Special with three-barrel two carburetors, 11.25: 1 compression ratio, and dual exhaust. Fuel injection is no longer an option on full size Chevrolet. New to list options are speed and cruise control.

Production is 490,000 units.

The right-hand car is made in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, for New Zealand, Australia and South Africa and is assembled locally from CKD or SKD kits. The right-hand drive dashboard is a mirror image of the 1959 Chevrolet panel and is shared with the right-sided model of the right Pontiac drive. The Australian model is assembled by hand on the Holden GMH assembly line.

Third generation (1961-1964)

1961

The Impala was restyled on the GM B platform for the first time in 1961. The new body arrangement was slimmer and boxed than the 1958-1960 model. The Sport Coupe model featured a "bubbleback" roof line style for 1961, and a unique model, a 2-door pillared sedan, available only for 1961. It was rarely booked. A "Super Sport" (SS) option debuted for 1961. It was also last year that the top station wagon model would have the Nomad name. Brake power $ 43.

1962

The 1962 model features a new "C" pillar styling for all models except the 4-door hardtop. The Sport Coupe model now features a "convertible" styling, which is shared with a large hard drive "GM" hard drive GM. This style proved popular. The "overhang" roof style of the sedan is replaced by a wider "C" pillar with the rear cover window. Engine options for 1962 include a 348-cubic inch (5.7Ã.L) V8 discontinued and replaced with 380 brake horsepower (280 kW) 409-cubic inches (6.7Ã, L) or 409 b bhp 409 inch cubic engine. These machines can only be ordered with manual shift transmission. A small block of 283 is offered with a two-barrel carburetor. The 283 series is also enlarged to 327 cubic inches (5.4 L), offered in two versions, one with 250 brake horsepower and another with 300 brake horsepower, which adds more machine options to small block enthusiasts. The Beach Boys produced a hit single, "409," referring to Chevrolet, which became an iconic song for these cars. Impalas once again showcase premium interior promises, plus seats can be made by the dealer at customer's request. And the chrome is slimmer on the outside, including a full-width aluminum-and-chrome panel for a three-unit rear light assembly house. The Super Sport (SS) model displays the panel in a special engine converted into aluminum, which is also used to fill side molds, making the SS more special in appearance. Impala also get the body design of the station wagon top, as a replacement model Chevrolet Nomad. Due to reliability issues, the optional automatic Turboglide transmission is stopped, leaving Powerglide the only automatic transmission available until 1965. A new radio is optional.

1963

The Impala 1963 features a rectilinear style with a rear rear panel aluminum engine rear panel surrounded by a chrome border on the SS model. Engine options are similar to 1962, with the smallest 283-and-327-cubic-inch blocks (4.6 and 5.4 L) the most popular V8. The Sport Sedan features a crumpled new roofline. The new instrument panel is "coved" with simple indicator lights for hot and cold engine conditions. An optional factory tachometer built into the dashboard, just above the wheel; it's rarely booked.

The special version of 427-cubic inches (7.0 L) of 409 engines is used on the 1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe, ordered under the Regular Production Options of Chevrolet (RPO) Z11. This is a special package made for drag racers, as well as NASCAR, and it consists of a 427 cubic inch machine with aluminum body parts, and a cowl induction air intake system. The aluminum body parts are made in Flint, Michigan at a facility now known as GM's Flint Metal Center. Unlike the others, the second generation 427, it is based on a 409 W-series engine, but with a stroke of 3.65 is longer (93 mm). A high intake, two-piece aluminum intake manifold and carburetor Carter AFB were given a compression ratio of 13.5: 1 to produce 430 hp (320 kW) and 575 lbÃ, Â · ft (780 Nm). 50 RPO Z11 cars are manufactured at the GM Flint plant.

1964

For the year 1964, Impala restyled with a more rounded and softer appearance. The rear taillight rear assembly has an "inverted" U-shaped aluminum strip strip above the taillights, but individual lights are surrounded by colored panels. The 409-cubic inches (6.7Ã, L) returns as a big-block option, as well as 2X4 carburetor settings for a 425 horsepower engine. The SS model continues to display the modified aluminum trim of the machine. Rooflines brought from 1963 unchanged. The back-up lamp is standard.

Right-hand drive cars are made at the Oshawa plant in Canada and are often shipped overseas in the form of kits to be assembled in South Africa and New Zealand. RHD Car - Chevrolet or Pontiac equivalent (built on a Chevrolet frame and using a Chevrolet engine in Canada) - all using the right-hand drive version of the 1961 left-hand drive dash.

Fourth generation (1965-1970)

Redesigned in 1965, Impala set an all-time annual industry sales record of more than 1 million units in the United States. All new full-size Chevrolets avoid the "X" frame for the full width of the perimeter frame, a new body featuring curved sidewalls (for a pillarless model), sharper corner glass with newly re-shaped ventilation windows, and full coil redesigned. suspension.

In 1965, Chevrolet introduced Impala Caprice, exclusively as a four-door hardtop. Caprices received tufted upholstery, wood-grained accents on the dashboard, and a special pull on the inside of the door. This "hello" model also features a spinner wheel cover of the SS Impala, with "SS" centers replaced by the Chevrolet "bowtie" emblem. The rear-black Super Back rear strip behind the three rear lights is also used, with the "Impala SS" emblem replaced with a large "Caprice by Chevrolet" badge. The Custom Caprice was reintroduced as Chevrolet Caprice in 1966, taking the top spot in the full-size Chevrolet lineup.

Engine options include inline six cylinders as well as small blocks and large V8 blocks. The three-range Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission is optional for 396 cuÃ, at (6.5 A L) V8. The old 409 cu engine at (6.7Ã, L) "W" was discontinued in early 1965, so the initial production of 1965 got 409, and 1/10 of 1% had a large block of 396 CIDs. Another built car then has 396 cuÃ, at (6.5Ã, Â ° C) as a big-block option. Two-speed powerglide, as well as 3-and-4-speed manual transmission is available. As in previous years, Impalas features more chrome tiles inside and out, with tufty linings and tufted doors. Impala will become the number 2 convertible in the US in 1966, with 38,000 sold; it was beaten by Mustang by almost 2: 1. 1966 saw a pair of enlarged big-V8 blocks showing 427 cuÃ, at (7.0 L). The L36 RPO is rated at 385 horsepower, L72 at 425. The L72 is only available with a manual transmission.

The 1967 model was redesigned with an improved Coke bottle styling featuring the front and rear fender corvettes. The most prominent curve with the 1967-1968 model. In accordance with federal regulations, safety features were built into the Impalas during 1967 and 1968 year models, including fully absorbing steering columns, side marker lights, and shoulder belts for closed models. The L72 engine was not available in 1967, but the L36 Turbo-Jet V8 is optional.

The 1968 model is a facelift with a new front end. The new rear bumper has three taillights "horseshoe". 1968 also saw the new Impala model, Custom Coupe. This two-door hardtop features the same formal roofline as the Caprice Coupe. It worked and will continue until 1976. The L72 "427 Turbo-Jet" machine once again returns to the list of options, the 425 horsepower V8 solid-lifter rated. It will continue to be available for 1968 and 1969, replaced by Turbo-Jet 454 for the 1970s.

The 1969 Impala and the other full-sized Chevrolet got new bodies from the side of the slab with a small "upsweep" in the rear quarter window, giving them a more formal appearance. It maintains a 119-inch wheelbase from previous models. New front bumper wrapped around the grille and horizontal rear lights are in the rear bumper. The Hardtop Sport Coupe earned a new notchback roof line, replacing the "fastback" C pillar from 1967 to 1968. The front window without ventilation was used on all models. Chevrolet has an unfinished "air vents" system that features ventilation in the instrument panel. The ignition switch is moved from the instrument panel to the steering column, and when the lock has been removed, the steering wheel and shift lever are locked.

The 1969 model of Impala production surpassed Caprice's production of 611,000 units. The Impala train station was named Kingswood, a name that would continue until 1972. The same 1970 impala received a minor facelift featuring a more conventional bumper grille bottom replacing the wrapping unit used in 1969 along with a new three vertical rear light in the rear bumper.. Canadian buyers get a lower priced companion option for Impala Sport Coupe, Bel Air Sport Coupe, which uses the same body but featuring Bel Air trim.

Export

Right-handed cars were produced in Canada for export to countries such as Australia, New Zealand, the UK, etc., until 1969. They used dashboard versions of dashboards 1965 - no provision for radio and installed in dashboard molding made of fiberglass instead of metal - until 1969. Radio (centralized) and locally sourced heaters and wipers parked in the center of the windshield. Australian models are collected in Australia from kits, as this reduces the tax on cars. Australian cars have locally sourced amber indicators replacing clear reversing lenses, as red flashers are banned there. For New Zealand assembly, the corpses were supplied from Canada that had been welded, painted and trimmed.

Impala SS (1961-1969)

In 1961, Impala SS (Super Sport) was introduced to the market. The SS badge is Chevrolet's signature to performance on many models, although it is often just an appearance package. The SS factory package of Impala in 1961 was truly a performance package when equipped with a trim and "mandatory" factory suspension and engine upgrades, starting with 348 cu at (5.7Ã,L) V8 engine available with 305Ã, hp (227Ã, kW; 309 PS), 340 hp (254 kW; 345 PS), and 350 hp (261 kW; 355 PS) or new 409 cu at (6.7Ã, L) V8, available with up to 425 hp (317 kW); 431 PS). Unlike in other years, the 1961 Super Sport package is available on any Impala, including sedans and station wagons (sales brochures show 4-door Hardtop Sport with SS package). This package also includes upgraded tires on station wagon wheels, springs, shocks and special sintered metallic brake linings. Only 142 1961 Super Sports Impala comes from the factory with 409. In addition to factory-installed SS packages, Chevrolet dealers can add SS trims to the standard Impala without a "mandatory" performance improvement, and a full range of '61s.

Starting from the 1962 model, the SS Impala is a limited viewing package for hardtop coupes and convertible coupe models, available with all engines in the Impala series starting with 235 cu at 3.9 L, 135 hp (101 kW; 137 PS) inline- 6 until 1967, although big-block machines and heavy-duty components can still be ordered. From 1967 to 1969, an additional model, the SS427, was available.

Super Sport is known as the Regular Production Option (RPO) Z03, from 1962 to 1963, and again in 1968. From 1964 to 1967, the Super Sport was a separate model, with its own VIN prefix (for V8 models, 168 versus 164 for regular Impala). Super Sports from 1962 to 1964 came with an altered aluminum trim machine, which was replaced by a "blackout" lane in 1965 that ran beneath the rear lights. 1965 Super Sport exterior only slightly different from the usual Impalas. Trim rocker panels have been removed. The "Super Sport" script replaces the "Impala" fender badge. The new center console saves a rally-type electric clock, and full instrumentation now includes a vacuum gauge. A total of 243,114 Impala SS coupes and convertibles were built for 1965.

The 1966 SS Impala facelifted with a revised grille and new rectangular rear lights that replaced triple round units. A chrome beltline line shared with Impalas was usually added in response to a complaint about the clean 1965 door slamming. Inside is a new front seat "Strato-bucket" with a backrest thin and tall, and the center console with optional measuring package available. Sales of the 1966 SS Impala fell by more than 50% to about 117,000 units; This is mainly due to the sports car market/performance switch from full-sized models to intermediates (including Chevrolet own Chevelle SS396 and Pontiac GTO), along with a growing market for the smaller horse car market made by Ford Mustang in 1964 Chevrolet will respond with the Camaro for 1967.

The 1967 Impala SS is less adorned than other Impalas; Super Sports has black grille accents and a black fender body and accented rear fenders. Smaller models tend to brighten inside and out. Buyers can choose vinyl bucket seats with center console, or Strato-Bench seats with folding center folders. The standard wheel cover is the same as the optional full cover on the other big Chevrolets, but the center features an "SS" logo surrounded by three red, white and blue rings. "Chevrolet" and "Impala" description on the body are all replaced by the "Impala SS" badge. Of the 76,055 Impala SS models built, only 2,124 are ordered with RPO Z24, a special performance package that includes RPO F41 heavy duty suspension and other performance features, L36 RPO (385 hp (287 kW, 390 PS)) Turbo-Jet 427 cuÃ, in (7.0Ã, L) V8, as well as a special trim package that replaces the "Impala SS" badge with a large "SS427" emblem on the front grille and rear trim. None of these cars have the name "Impala" anywhere in the body or interior, and Chevrolet often markets them as "Chevrolet SS427," sans the name "Impala". The Z24 package also includes a special hood with fake chrome-plated intake. Only about 400 Super Sports had six-cylinder engines from 1967 to 1968, 390 hp (291 kW; 395 PS) in 1969, or L72 (425 hp (317 kW; 431 PS)) from 1968 to 1969. SS427 special badging, inside and out, is the rule, but few are sold, as muscle car enthusiasts are looking for big middlemen, such as Chevelle SS396 and Plymouth Road Runner.

In 1968 when Caprice's sales increased, the people of the Impala Super Sport had decreased. Much of this sales decline is undoubtedly due to the availability of big-block machines in medium (and lighter) Chevelle, and even Novas can be specially ordered with 396 engines with the new body for 1968. No more separate series, Super Sport only option package $ 179 (Regular Z03 Production Choice) for two Impala and convertible coupes. Only 38,210 impalas are equipped, including 1,778 with the Z24 package, brought from 1967. In 1968 alone, the SS427 can be ordered without the SS Z03 package, meaning SS427 equipment but no bucket seats, SS door panels, or center console. Z03 Impala SS can be identified with the "Impala Super Sport" badge on the front grille, rear fender, and trunk lid. The Z24-optioned car includes the "SS427" emblem to replace the "Impala Super Sport" badge, special-coated "hood" hood, and three "gills" mounted on the front of the rear fenders of the wheels with either ÃÆ' la Corvette Stingray.

In 1969, the SS Impala was only available as Z24 (SS427), coming exclusively with 427 cuÃ, at (7.0 V) from 335 hp (250 kW, 340 PS), 390 hp (291 kW, 395 PS), or 425 hp (317 kW; 431 PS). This is the last year for Impala SS until 1994. Unlike the previous two years, in 1969 finally got the script "Impala" in the front fender and interior. The 1969 Impala SS does not have a different SS badge in the car except for the "SS" steering logo (again, no Z03 was offered that year). Like 1968, Z24 can be ordered on Impala convertible, Sport Coupe, or Custom Coupe. 1969 is the last year that the SS Impala is offered with the Z24 package, but the only year in which the front disc brakes and 15 inch wheels (380 mm) are standard; which makes SS427 1969 mechanically better than the previous version in standard form. Although sales of 1969 Z24-optioned Impalas increased to about 2,455 units from 1,778 Z03-optioned 1968 units, and large-engine V8 engines continued to be available, there would be no SS Impala for 1970. 427 was also replaced on the list of offer engines with the Turbo-Jet 454 produce 390 hp (291 kW; 395 PS)

GM Platform B 1965-1970 is the fourth best-selling car platform in history after Volkswagen Beetle, Ford Model T and Lada Riva.

Fifth generation (1971-1976)

Impala remains the best-selling Chevrolet model with the fifth generation. The high performance V8 block is still available in the form of Turbo-Jet 454, which produced 365 hp in 1971, but power declined over the course of the year. The redesigned B-body of 1971 will be the biggest car Chevrolet has ever offered. Hardtop Sport Coupe continues to be offered; it is a semi-fastback with a smooth tilt that is reminiscent of the 1961 "bubbletop" styling. The three-speed manual transmission remains standard at the start of the year, but in the spring of 1971 all the full-size GM cars equipped the V8 got Turbo Hydra-Matic as standard equipment. Interestingly, Powerglide is still available optionally for six-cylinder cars up to the 1973 model. In accordance with its large size, the new "B" Chevrolet is close to the Cadillac in luxury, styling, and driving features. Like all GM "power" cars, the Impala gets a new electric ventilation system that stays on when the ignition is turned on, and inserts both large vents in the instrument panel and the grille in the trunk. However, the system proved to be problematic and disliked by many buyers.

The 1972 model has an extended grille beneath the bumper. Powertrains consist of most of the V8 engines. 250 inline six is still standard for the model Coupe and 4-door sports sedan; 350 2bbl V8 became the standard engine from 1973-1976, with 350 cubic inches (5.7Ã, L), 400 cubic inches (6.6Ã, L), 402 cubic inches (6.6Ã, L) (up to 72) or 454 cubic inches ( 7.4 Ã, L) is optional. The best-selling body style is the formal Root Coupe roof. Beginning in 1972, all engines were designed to run with unleaded gasoline. 1972 saw the last Impala convertible; sold 6,456 copies, placing fourth with just under 9 percent of the market, just behind the 6,508 Corvette, ahead of Mustang's 6401. The ventilation system is upgraded, and the exit vents are moved from the trunk lid to the door pillar.

1973 Chevrolet features a larger front bumper and jolts because of a new federal mandate that requires impact protection 5 miles per hour (8.0 km/h). New rear lights are installed in the conventional (still) rear bumper. The convertible moved into the upper class to the Caprice Classic series. Tweaks to the suspension and frame provide better roadability, according to Chevrolet general manager John Z. DeLorean. Steering wheel and colorful instrument panel for interior color, compared to matte black color used in 1971-1972. The rim of the steering wheel feels soft, and replaces the "Impala" badge with the generic "Chevrolet". The inline six-cylinder engine is currently offered only on the 4-door Bel Air sedan, and only with a 3-speed manual transmission. The interior has repositioned the front seats for more legroom. Name Impala back for train station Kingswood. Suspension and chassis designs are modified for better roadworthiness.

1,000 1973 Impalas built with "Air Cushion Restraint System" (ACRS) which uses an oldmobile instrument panel and a unique steering wheel containing driver and front passenger air bags. They were all four-door sedans painted a special green-gold color. The system was not advertised on a large scale and many cars were used for collision trials by GM and the Federal government. For decades this system proved durable and successfully protected the front passengers in front-end collisions. Unfortunately Chevy did not offer ACRS in 1974; However it is offered in Oldsmobile and Cadillac models that year as an option and save lives. One Impala equipped with ACRS is preserved and remains a testament to the ability of American automakers to design life-saving safety systems into cars without a government mandate. There is no other example known today.

In 1974, the rear bumper was redesigned with shock absorbers to meet the improved standards and new tail lights displayed. The front end is also refreshed as in previous years, with new grille and front lamp bezel, new header panel, and bumper with the center of the drop down. The marker light moves back up beside the headlights again. This is the only year from 1971-1976 the Impala model has a different front end design from the Caprice Classic, like in other years using a lattice insert or the previous year's Caprice ahead to distinguish the two. Rooftop line Impala coupe also revised. For 1974, the Custom Coupe was no longer a hardtop, with large rear quarter glass and thick B pillar. The Sport Coupe, which is still a pillarless hardtop, now uses larger rolling quarter glass like the one in the 1971-1973 Custom Coupe, and has a narrower back window, faster rear. Sedan uses body shell from previous years.

The limited edition Spirit of America package was offered in 1974 with the Sport Coupe model; especially the appearance package, it features white or blue body paint, a full white vinyl top, white upholstery with red or blue trim, colored locking belts and floormats, special wheel cover, optional white alloy, dual-out outdoor rear-view rearview , vinyl side body mold inserts, and red pin-striping. Custom fenders and dash badges announce the package to passers-by and passengers. Chevrolet also offers the Nova and Vega Spirit of America versions.

The 1975 Impala used the front end of Caprice in 1974, with lattice inserts and symbols changing. The Caprice model was revised with a new front end with stylish header panels swept with main light buckets, new hoods, and new fenders. Also in 1975 coatings, door panels and dashboards were revised such as radio charts and climate control. The speedometer reads up to 100 miles per hour (160 km/h), and adds kilometers per hour. The High Energy Ignition System (HEI) was officially introduced in 1975, although it was installed on some 1974 cars as a clandestine option. The catalytic converters are also introduced, as are several new options, including the Econominder gauge package (which also includes a cooling temperature gauge), intermittent wiper, and 50/50 bench seats divided by passenger side seats (with a choice of sports or vinyl trim fabrics). This is the last year of the full-size Chevrolet convertible. The four-door model gets a new roofline; Hardtop Sport Sedan gets a small triangular "opera window" carved out of a wide roof panel.

The Landau model available for the 1975-1976 model features a vinyl landau roof (with chrome ribbon on the roof), special paint color options, sporty long distance double mirrors outside the rearview mirror, colored caliber wheel covers, inserted bodyside vinyl molds and pin- striping. Inside is a colorful seat belt and floormats. Fenders and dash emblems round up the package. The 2-door hardtop model (nicknamed "Sport Coupe") was discontinued after 1975, leaving a redesigned Custom Coupe, with a wide "B" pillar and fixed rear window, the only 2-door Impala available in 1976. This body style has been introduced to the 1974 model year, the predecessor to completely abandon the body style without a Detroit pillar before the end of the Seventy. 1976 Impalas used Caprice's nose the year before, with a new "eggplate" grille insertion. The Impala has a round headlamp while Caprice uses a new rectangular rectangle.

The sixth generation (1977-1985)

The changes in the auto market resulted in Chevrolet redesigning the Impala once again in 1976 to meet the changing demands. The smaller impalas are shorter in length, taller and narrower than before. The new Impala frame is a shortened version of that introduced in 1970 and will be used until 1996 when the B-body production line is closed. Even with the exterior dimensions of the trimmer, the new Impala features increased headroom, rear legroom, and luggage space. The production of a downsized model increased substantially during 1976, and Impala regained its number one sales position in the US. The redesigned Impala/Caprice 1977 is named after this year's car. The new body was taller and narrower than the 1976 model.

The pillar of the hardtops is stopped, the result of federal rollover standards looming in the near future. The 1977-1979 coupes sported double bending angry rear windows similar to the Monte Carlo Aerocoupe 1987 Chevrolet. In 1980, all new metal sheets were used, although the body style remained the same.

The availability of engines decreased for 1977; inline-6 â € <â €

Impala and upscale Caprice sold well into the early 1980s. The Impala was reduced to a full-size Chevrolet base model and was popular with fleet use - including taxis and police chase vehicles, but was discontinued in 1985, while Caprice continued unchanged until 1990. After the Impala collapse, Chevrolet full-size model bases re-branded Caprice beginning the year 1986, with a top model called Caprice Classic and Caprice Classic Brougham.

Seventh_generation_ (Impala_SS, _1994-1996) "> Seventh Generation (Impala SS, 1994-1996)

In January 1990, the GM B platform was redesigned for the 1991 model, although maintaining the same shortened frame design from the 1977 model redesign. The SS Impression Badge was raised at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show as a concept car designed by GM designer Jon Moss. The concept car was two inches lower to the ground than the regular Caprice, and powered by an 8.2 liter engine (500 cuÃ, in). Finally, the concept car engine was replaced with a 5.7 liter engine (350 Â ° c) coming from the Corvette.

1994 Impala SS began production on February 14, 1994, at the GM plant in Arlington, Texas, and almost cosmetically identical with the concept car; the only visible changes are the bowtie chrome logo on the grill (compared to the red logo on the concept). Basically, the car is a high-performance version of Caprice. He used the Caprice 9C1 police package as his base and thus gained most of the equipment previously available only to law enforcement and government agencies. These include sport-tuned suspensions with reinforced shocks and springs, high-capacity backflow cooling systems (derived from LT1 Corvette), four-wheel disc brakes, transmission cooling, dual exhaust, higher electrical systems, and other minor mechanical changes. Impala SS does not get oil oil from outside to the air, nor are all mounts secured (Caprice and Impala SS standards are assembled in the factory with three front mounts missing one of the rubber pads, while 9C1 is assembled with all rubber pads in place).

The SS impala is equipped with standard 3.08 equipment. The limited rear slip differential is standard (compared to G80 option on Caprices) and one inch lower suspension. A small 5.7 liter (350 Â ° cu) small 5.7 liter V8 block is standard on the SS Impala, making 260 hp (194 kW, 264 PS) and 330 lb ft (447 N m) of torque (retuned from prototype 300Ã, hp ( 224Ã, kW; 304Ã, PS) rating). The main difference between the LT1 on Impala and LT1 in the Corvette and Camaro is that the Impala engine is fitted with an aluminum cylinder head instead of an aluminum one, and the camshaft is designed more for low-end torque than high-end horsepower. Another difference is that the casting block for Impala LT1 has two main pads with bolts while the casting used for Corvette LT1 has four main bearing bolts. The transmission is 4L60E, which is an electronically controlled version of the previously controlled 4L60 hydraulically. However, the transmission is not upgraded for LT1 power, and transmission failure after 100,000 miles (160,000 km) is commonplace.

The SS impala receives colorful trims, a unique single-bar grille with no hood ornaments, and a rear deck spoiler. It is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels (430 mm) with 255/50ZR17 Z-rated all-season tires. Inside, the car came with a central console with cup holders (1994 and 1995 models) and storage compartments, embroidered leather seats with the SS Impala logo, and a standard leather steering wheel. For the 1994 model year, it was only available in black with gray interior. Due to the lack of a unique five-spoke aluminum wheel, only 6,303 cars were sold. However, the wheel shortage was fixed for the 1995 model and 21,434 cars were sold.

In 1995, Dark Cherry Metallic and Dark Gray Green were added as an exterior color option, and the body panels on the rear quarter panel were changed to reflect the cosmetic effect previously achieved by window inserts. Another change from 1994 was the placement of a side mirror from a pod attached to the door to a larger format attached to the 'A' pillar. 1996 was the last year of production with 41,941 units sold. 1996 SS Impala is also exported to the Middle East because Caprice SS is with a car identical to its American counterpart except for side fonts on the rear quarter panels and a badge on the dashboard saying Caprice SS . Production of SS Impala in 1996 was late into the model year; which was last produced on December 13, 1996. It saw a small interior change, with a digital speedometer replaced by analog ones, along with a tachometer. Shifters are moved from column to center console, and machine is given OBD-II computer control system (camshaft reset to adjust for new computer).

Termination

The entire B-body line, consisting of Chevrolet Caprice, Impala SS, and Buick Roadmaster, has been discontinued, as GM wants more assembly lines to be able to produce more profitable SUVs. The ceremony was held at the factory on December 13, 1996, when the SS Impala was last produced.

Eighth generation (2000-2005)

Impala's name was revived for 2000 model as "Hi-Mid" program to rename Lumina As The Chevy Impala. Based on Lumina's W-body platform, it was built at the Oshawa Car Conference in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Unlike the previous Impala built on the B-body, this one is a front-wheel drive and is available with a choice of two engines, the ever-extending 3.8L V6 engine, and a slightly smaller 3.4L V6 engine. A new SS Impala with supercharged V6 was taken out for the 2004 model.

Impala is available in two trim levels from 2000 to 2003. The basic model is equipped with a bench seat, steel wheel, 180 horsepower (130 kW) 3.4 liter (204 cu in) LA1 V6, and a 3- gauge. The LS comes equipped with an upgraded leather bucket fabric with a center console and floor shift, colorful "Impala" door scripts and baggage badges, anti-lock brakes, traction control systems , remote without key entry, integrated foglamps, upgraded aluminum wheels, rear spoiler (optional on base model), 4-gauge instrument cluster, and 200 horsepower (150 kW) 3.8 liters larger (231 cu in) L36 V6. Options available on all models include sunroof, OnStar system, Driver Information Center with internal HomeLink system, heated front seats, and SS-inspired wheels of the 16s and 1990s. All models are equipped with power windows, door locks and mirrors. Rear spoiler is an option on the base model, and can be removed from the LS model upon buyer's request. For the first time since 1959, Chevrolet offers an Impala that does not have or mimic the features of the three model signature rear lights.

2004 to 2005 Impala SS equipped with 3.8 liter engine (231 cu in) supercharged L67 V6. It was rated at 240 horsepower (180 kW) and was previously used in the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Buick Regal GS , Buick Riviera, and H-body Pontiac Bonneville SSEI and Buick Park Avenue "Ultra". The lighter front-wheel drive sedan is really as fast as the 1990 SS Impala, with a 0-60 mph time (0-97 km/h) driving 6.5 seconds, compared to the previous model time also showing 6.5 second (average 7.1 seconds). To commemorate Chevrolet's long relationship with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 race, the limited edition (4,088 produced) Impala Indy SS was offered in 2004, featuring a black grille with a gold Chevrolet bowtie emblem that will be brought to all Impala models in 2005, on exterior and interior, 17 inch chrome wheels, cluster gauge packs, and more.

Impala 9C1 and 9C3

Also released with this version is the Police Package first released in 2000 and Undercover Police Packages was first released in 2001, named after 9C1 and 9C3 , respectively. Only available to law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS agents, has been more successful than its predecessor, Lumina 9C3. 9C1 is a basic model with a stronger suspension and 3.8 liter engine (231 cu in) V6. It's only available in some basic colors. Another addition is the "SURV MODE" switch that replaces the fog light switch found on the LS. This allows the driver to turn off all the lights in the vehicle and "hide"; something not allowed with civilian models, such as automatic headlights are standard. The 9C3 is equipped for 9C1, but the ability to add other comfort options and more choice of paint and interior set 9C3 apart.

The ninth generation (2006-2016)

2006

Impala 2006 was introduced at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Like Buick LaCrosse, Impala's ninth generation uses the updated GM W platform. The base engine is a 3.5 V (214 cu in) V6 that produces 211 hp (157 kW) and 214 lb ft (290 m) of torque at 4000 rpm. The new Impala features a new rear light, in contrast to the four-circle style of the previous generation. The impala is mostly sold to fleet operators, with private buyers holding a quarter of sales.

The Model SS uses a small V8 block of Generation IV, the first to do so in a Chevrolet front-wheel-drive, and the first V8 in a Chevrolet sedan since Caprice 1996. The 5.3Ã,® L (325 cu in) V8 with Displacement on Demand, called Active Fuel Management or AFM) generates 303 hp (226 kW). Using 5.3Ã, LS4 L V8, the SS Impala is capable of 5.6 seconds 0-60 miles per hour (0-97Ã, km/h) time and quarter mile time 14.2 seconds travel at 101 miles per hour (163 km/hour). Leather seats are standard on LTZ and optional models on LT models. The ninth generation Impala features a wood trim center console with chrome accents on all the main control buttons. The dashboard features a chrome Impala logo embedded in a wooden wheat trim that spans across the dashboard and into the door. The control buttons found throughout the vehicle's cockpit are similar to those found in Buick and Cadillac DTS models, all of which feature a similar center console. Another interior revision is the location of the cup holder, which is moved under the middle center of the center console of the vehicle.

LS is the basic model. It offers a steel wheel with wheel cover (later on), AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD player, additional input jack, and six speakers, keyless entry, air conditioner, cloth seating surface, and a choice of two front buckets or front seat seats single. LT is a mid-range model. It offers alloy wheels, MP3 playback capabilities, and optional front heating seats. LTZ is the most luxurious model. It offers heated leather seating surfaces, AM/FM stereo with six-CD CD/MP3 changer in dash and premium sound system Bose eight speakers, power sunroof, security system, and OnStar. SS is a top-of-the-line model until 2009. It offers a 5.3 V8 L engine, leather seating surfaces and suede, alloy wheels equipped with an eighteen-inch engine, and SS badging (The 2006-09 model is the first Impala with a V8 engine since 1996). Due to unpopularity, SS trims were discontinued in 2009, making LTZ the top-of-the-line model for 2010 to be the most powerful, and for a shorter time in 2012-2013, LS, LT, and LTZ Trim are 300 horsepower, and also on Impala Limited from 2014-2016.

Tire pressure monitoring systems, cruise controls, and CD players are standard on all models, and factory spoiler is an available option. LT has a 16-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels. The 7th generation OnStar system with turn-by-turn navigation is included when available referrals and connection services are selected. All models use the SS style spoiler before (actually gradually for late 2008 model year). Touring trim levels were discontinued for 2009. Leather seating is no longer available in combination with a 40/20/40 bench front bench. Three new exterior colors are available: Summit White, Cyber Gray Metallic, and Aqua Blue Metallic, and four exterior colors have been removed. The comfort package (PDG), AM/FM stereo with 6-disc CD changer on the dashboard, and baggage load net are no longer available. The Impala emblem in the rear sail panel as well as the rear decklid badge on the LS model have been removed. The early 2010 model had a lower front side GM badge but was also later removed.

2011

For the 2011 model year, the Impala is back in the trim of LS, LT, and LTZ. Available engines are 3.5 V6 L (LS or LT) or 3.9 L V6 (LTZ only). Impala 2011 has the same wheels as the Impala 2012-2013, but Impala 2011 is the last year model in which the chrome trim on the trunk lid appears.

2012

For the 2012 model year, the exterior gets a little refresher and 4 trim: standard Impala, LS, LT, and LTZ. The 3.5 and 3.9 L Throw engines support one, L LFX 3.6 which delivers 302 hp (225 kW) and 262 lb torque? Ft (355 N m). Automatic four-speed transmission is also removed for six automatic speeds. Impala also received new packages, including LS Uplevel package, LS OnStar and Bluetooth package, Sunroof LT package, LT OnStar package and OnStar LT and Bluetooth package.

2013

For the 2013 model year, Impala is largely an accumulation of the 2012 model. Available trims are again LS, LT, and LTZ. It is the last retail impala to be offered with optional bench seats and column shift transmission. The Luxury Edition package, last seen on the 2011 model, returns as an option on LT and features a hollow leather seating surface, dual front bucket seats with 8-way driver's side and 6-way power adjuster passenger side, in automatic mirror dimming mirrors , Universal Home Remote, a heated, heated outdoor mirror, premium Bose 8-speaker sound system, a six-disc CD changer on the dashboard that plays MP3 and WMA files, with Radio Data System, Sirius-XM satellite radio, and as well as iPod and USB inputs, as well as additional inputs. Due to the initial release of the redesigned 2014 model, Impala 2013 has an abbreviated model year.

Impala Limited (2014-2016)

The ninth-generation model remains in LS, LT, and LTZ trims until the 2016 model as a rental car, fleet and police with the revised model name "Impala Limited". The consolidated plant in Oshawa, Canada continues to make Impala Limited, along with Chevrolet Equinox. Production ends in May 2016.

Impala 9C1 & amp; 9C3 (Ninth Generation)

The 9C1 and 9C3 models are based on the LS model, but offer steel or steel wheels with wheel coverings, optional rubber flooring, preparation of police equipment such as sirens, radios and lamps, special bells, and inoperable rear door handles, windows and lock the door. It also comes with options for the rear bench vinyl bench and front bucket bucket or bench seats, both the front and back seats of the fabric, or the front and back seats of vinyl. It also offers preparations for a criminal enclosure to be installed between the front and back seats. Foglamps seen on LT, LTZ, and SS are optional in 2008 & amp; remains an option until 2012 that removes that option. The 9C1 and 9C3 also have the option of having a spoiler visible on LT and LTZ until it was replaced by SS spoilers and other models in 2009. The police sedan received FlexFuel in 2008 features to compete with Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, who also received a similar feature that allows it to take advantage of E85. Also updated are the 9C1 and 9C3 trim levels for the Police Package model, which has no civilian V8 SS 303Ã, (226Ã, kW), but uses 3.9 L L (237 cu in) V6. The Sedan Police utilizes SS radiators and cooling systems as upgrades from standard 3.9Ã, L (used in LTZ Impala) engines. GM does not want to design a special radiator and cooling system to supplement the low-production V8 police vehicles. Also, heavy duty steel wheels are not redesigned, and thus, the Sedan Police uses genuine center caps or stylish wheel covers older than the 8th generation model. 9C1 and 9C3 are equipped with external trunk lock tumblers starting in 2008. No features are available for civil versions of cars. The 9C1 and 9C3 police models have standard wood grain for models from 2006 to 2007 replaced by aluminized interior trim. For the 2012 model year, both 9C1 and 9C3 have different end caps where fog lamps are in LT and LTZ trims on the front end bumper, receiving 17-inch wheels with new wheel covers, and the same LFX V6 that drives the Impala civil. The Caprice PPV succeeds Impala 9C1 after production ends in 2016. Until then, Caprice 9C1 and Impala 9C1 are offered simultaneously.

Tenth generation (2014-present)

The 10th generation Impala is introduced at the 2012 New York Auto Show for the 2014 model year, with sales and production starting March 4, 2013. The tenth generation Impala is the first North American sedan in 20 years to get Consumer Report span> ' top score, with a score of 95 out of a possible 100 points.

The tenth generation Impala is built bigger (again considered full size) and more luxurious than the previous generation (sharing the extended Epsilon II FWD platform with Cadillac XTS) to reduce the overlap price between Impala and Malibu, similar to how Ford Taurus and Ford Fusion are positioned in the Ford lineup. The current version is being assembled in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, alongside the ninth-generation Impala (now renamed Impala Limited's only fleet and rental only), and the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly in the United States. All trim levels are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and manual transfer mode.

The tenth generation model is delivered to dealerships in North America on March 25, 2013, and officially goes on sale to the public April 1, 2013. On the same day regular production at Impala (version 2.4L eAssist and 3.6L equipped/LT2 and LTZ2 trim only) at their Oshawa plant, while production at GM Detroit-Hamtramck's factory (full version 2.5L/LS, LT1 and LTZ1 trims) began production on April 8 and arrived at dealerships in May. The eAssist version went on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013.

In 2014, Impala has surged sales since the launch of its tenth generation, capturing 14.7 percent of the competitive full-size sedan segment, up from 6.9 percent in 2013, making it one of Chevrolet's best selling brands due to its affordability, promotion and won recognition by the automobile trade and website. Impala also beat its main competitor, Toyota Avalon, which dropped from 17.8 percent in 2013 to 14.2 percent in 2014, making Impala the top-selling full-size sedan in the United States.

The 2014 impala comes standard with 18 inch wheels (19, and 20 inches offered in higher trim), low profile HID lamps and LED daytime running lights (on LTZ trim) and is offered in three machines; 2.5 L 4-Cylinder (the first time Impala will use this type), 2.4 L 4-Cylinder with hybrid aid technology, and 3.6 L V6. The interior comes with a 4.2-inch color screen featuring Chevrolet MyLink (LT and LTZ trims), HD Radio (all trim) and Pandora Radio (LT and LTZ trims), active noise relievers for all 4-cylinder options, while new security features including 10 Standard Airbags combined with OnStar. Optional features for the 2014 model include "full speed adaptive cruise controllers, collision mitigation brakes, front collision warnings, lane departure warning, side blind warning warnings, cross-back traffic warnings, rear camera, and rear park aids."

Model year changes

For 2015, 4G LTE is added to OnStar as the optional HD Radio feature is no longer offered starting with the 2015 model year. In addition, the eAssist version is terminated due to low sales.

For the 2016 model year, Impala rose from five to four levels: LS, LT1, LT2, and LTZ2. The Midnight appearance package is added as an upgrade for LT and LTZ trim, which includes a unique black-pocket wheel and a black gloss badge in addition to the standard black paint. Five new colors are introduced: Siren Red Tintcoat, Citron Green Metallic, Heather Gray Metallic, Mosaic Black Metallic, and Green Envy Metallic; six colors dropped: Autumn Bronze, Red Rock, Crystal Red Tintcoat, Ashen Gray, Silver Topaz, and Champagne Silver. The Jet Black/Brownstone interior color scheme was dropped. The 2016 model also comes with a new ampere ampere of 800 ampere, replacing 900 CCA. Wireless charging for devices, front and rear spark guards, and lane change alerts added. CD players are now only offered as standard equipment on LTZ, but are available as an option on other trims as part of the Technology package. 2016 also sees the addition of Apple CarPlay features and Android Auto Capability; only one brand of phone can be used at any time.

In addition to the "OnStar/Connections Plan" renamed "Guide Package", the 2016 Impala option package will be renamed:

  • LS Convenience for the Protection Package
  • Advanced Security Belief Package for Trust
  • Premium Seating Package to Leather
  • Premium Audio and Sports Wheel Packages to Technology
  • Convenience and Convenience for Enhanced Comfort Package
