Histori
Inventor Alfred KÃÆ'ärcher (1901-59) of Baden-WÃÆ'ürttemberg founded the company in 1935 in Stuttgart Bad-Cannstatt. Originally KÃÆ'ärcher specialized in the design of industrial submersible heating elements, ie in a salt smelter heated with immersion heater. After various experiments, the hardening furnace for the alloy was produced, called "KÃÆ'ärcher Salt-Bath Furnace". About 1,200 units were sold until 1945. Karcher created the first modern pressure washer, the DS 350 in 1950. The company's main focus then turned to cleaning equipment for professional and personal users. Since then, KÃÆ'ärcher has been leading in the design and development of pressure washer. The company's product range is expanded and now covers all areas of cleaning (sweepers, detergents, dryers, wet and dry vacumum, vacuum cleaners, battery-powered brooms, steam cleaners, dry ice blasting equipment, component cleaners, water treatment systems, vehicle washing and systems waste water recycling). KÃÆ'ärcher also offers pumps and watering systems.
In 1974 the company color changed from blue to yellow. From that year, under the leadership of widow Alfred KÃÆ'ärcher, Irene KÃÆ'ärcher, the company launched the HD 555, the first pressure washer for private users.

Common noun
In some countries such as Germany, Britain, France, Poland, Russia, Georgia or Mexico, the United States KÃÆ'ärcher is now used everyday as a synonym for a high pressure water cleaning system used for clean cars, outdoor equipments etc.
French politician Nicolas Sarkozy once declared that La Courneuve, a banlieue outside Paris where a boy was killed by a stray shot, would be "cleaned with KÃÆ'ärcher" ( nettoyer la citÃÆ'à © au KÃÆ'ärcher ) - meaning that all criminals and other unwanted people should be removed and washed. This comment is highly controversial, as many French connect the banini with immigrants, mainly North Africans.
The use of the word Sarkozy causes the word to be a verb: "to Karcher" or "Karcherize". Presidential candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen told the residents of Argenteuil, many of them immigrants, "If some want to karcherize you, to exclude you, we want to help you out of this ghetto." In response, KÃÆ'ärcher France sent a letter to all candidates in the 2007 presidential election asking them not to use the company's name in this way, and has run ads in newspapers to escape the statement.
Cultural sponsors
Under its cultural sponsorship program, KÃÆ'ärcher has supported more than 90 projects to clean up leading international buildings such as Space Needle in Seattle (2008), heads of Presidents at Mount Rushmore National Memorial (2005), Colossi of Memnon in Luxor (2003) ), Colonnades at St. Peter's Square in Rome (1998), Brandenburg Gate in Berlin (1990) Statue of Liberty in New York City (1985) and Statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro (1980).
