LG Chem Creates Shift in Battery Market |Regen Power

LG Chem Ltd. (Korea: LG ??), often referred to as LG Chemical, is Korea's largest chemical company and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. According to Chemical and Engineering News, it is the 13th largest chemical company in the world with sales in 2014. It was first established as Lucky Chemical Industrial Corporation, which manufactures cosmetics. Now this is a business-to-business company.

To create the parent company, the old "LG" LG (the legal predecessor of LG Corp) split, creating the new "LG" LG Chem and LG Care. The "old" LG Chem changed its name to LG CI l. After merging with LG EI (Goldstar's official successor) in 2003, it changed its name to LG Corp.

The company has eight factories in South Korea and a network of 29 business locations in 15 countries. The network includes holding companies in China, 14 overseas manufacturing subsidiaries, five marketing subsidiaries, seven representative offices, and two R & D centers. D. The Financial Times reported on April 2, 2017 that LG Chem will expand battery production in China. At that time, China accounted for one-third of the company's total sales.

Basic ingredients and chemicals

LG Chem is a petrochemical supplier ranging from basic distillates to specialty polymers. For example, it is a major manufacturer of general plastics such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), styrene-acrylonitrile resin (SAN), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It also produces raw materials and liquids, including plasticizers, specialty additives, alcohols, polyolefins, acrylic acid, synthetic rubbers, styrene, performance polymers, engineering plastics, elastomers, conductive resins, and other chemicals.

Information technology and electronic materials

LG Chem provides optical screens and films, printed circuitry, and toners. It also supplies LCD polarizers, a multi-layer film layer that is applied to the top and bottom surfaces of the TFT-LCD panel to transmit light from the backlight unit through the panel, and a 3D film-type patterned retarder (FPR) film, allowing a three-dimensional view.

Energy solutions

LG Chem completed development and commenced the production of Korea's first massive lithium-ion battery in 1999. By the end of 2011, LG Chem is the world's third largest maker with an annual production capacity of 1,000 million cells. It is also a supplier of automotive batteries for electric vehicles, such as Ford Focus, Chevrolet Volt and Renault ZOE.

LG Chem Michigan is a wholly owned subsidiary of LG Chem in the Netherlands, Michigan which operates a factory to manufacture advanced battery cells for electric vehicles in Holland, Michigan. Plant US $ 303 million Holland receives 50% of its funding from the US Department of Energy that matches the stimulus fund, and starts producing battery systems by 2013. The plant can generate enough cells per year to build between 50,000 and 200,000 battery packs for electric and hybrid cars such as the Chevrolet Volt by General Motors, Ford Focus Electric, and other upcoming plug-in electric vehicles from other car manufacturers. The research and development group, called LG Chem Power, is based near Troy, Michigan. LG Chem Power and LG Chem Michigan were originally a company called Compact Power, Inc.

Both the Chevrolet Volt and Ford Focus Electric initially used cells manufactured in Korea by LG Chem's parents and then switched to cells manufactured at Dutch factory LG Chem Michigan after it opened.
