Nokia Lumia 920 is a smartphone developed by Nokia that runs Windows Phone 8 operating system. It was announced on September 5, 2012, and was first released on November 2, 2012. It has a Qualcomm Krait 1.5-GHz dual CPU -core and 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen, as well as a high sensitivity capacitive touch screen that can be used with gloves and nails, the screen is covered by a curved Gorilla Glass. It supports Qi inductive charging (can be charged directly to the charging pad) and equipped with PureView 8.8 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization for still and video images, comes with 32 GB internal storage, but lacks expandable storage.
This phone was released to be mixed into positive reception. Most critics have noted this device as the first Windows Phone 8 device that actually matches Android and iOS competitors in hardware, with advanced specifications, Nokia PureView camera, and unique features like wireless inductive charging. After this, Lumia 920 will often be listed amongst the "elite" group of smartphones during its time, if not occupied by heavyweights of Apple and Samsung. This is the first time a Windows Phone device is considered to have a hardware that is powerful enough and impressive to qualify as a top class feature device. Many features such as super sensitive capacitive screens and wireless inductive charging are popularized by the device and found on high-end Android phones later on. Because some reviewers criticized the thickness and weight of the phone, Nokia released the Nokia Lumia 925, a light and thin version of the Lumia 920 with an improved aluminum body and camera.
On April 2, 2014, Nokia Lumia 930, the successor to the flagship Nokia Lumia 92x series, was announced in Build 2014.

Hardware
The Nokia Lumia 920 shares the "Fabula" design language of its predecessor, Lumia 900 and 800, as well as Nokia N9, with a unibody polycarbonate shell. Some colors with glossy and matte finish are available.
Processor, memory and storage
The Lumia 920 has a Qualcomm Krait dual-core 1.5 GHz CPU, Qualcomm Adreno 225 GPU, and 1 GB system RAM. The Lumia 920T variant for the Chinese market comes with a 1.7-GHz dual-core Krait CPU and the Adreno 320 GPU.
All variants of the Nokia Lumia 920 comes with an internal storage capacity of 32 GB, and does not support microSD expansion.
Display
The Lumia 920 has a 4.5 inch (114 mm) curved Glass Gorge with 1280x768 (WXGA) and a 15: 9 aspect ratio, using an enhanced IPS display technology called Nokia "PureMotion HD". It has an average transition time of less than 9 ms, compared to an average of 23 ms for a conventional IPS LCD, which reduces opaque motion. The display has a ClearBlack polarization filter and an auto-adaptive system to adjust the brightness, color, and contrast details to compensate for the lighting.
Camera
Lumia 920 features Nokia's PureView technology on the rear camera, featuring an optically stabilized 8.9-megapixel BSI image sensor (1/3.2 "size, much smaller than previous Nokia 808 Pureview) with Carl Zeiss Tessar/2.0 lens, pulse short high-power dual-LED flash and 1080p HD video capture. The pixel size is 1.4 Ã,Ãμm The front camera encloses a 1.3 megapixel sensor capable of capturing HD video at 720p.
Controversy
On September 6, 2012, Nokia apologized for an ad showing a video allegedly taken from someone holding Lumia 920 by bike, but who was actually shot by someone holding a camera in a van (as can be seen in the reflection on the window). However, the review later shows that the camera's performance is comparable to that described in the ad.
Connectivity
Nokia Lumia 920, like its predecessor, supports 4G LTE technology. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and microUSB 2.0.
Battery and charging
Lumia 920 has a non-user-replaceable 2000-mAh battery, providing maximum standby time of up to 19 days, and a maximum talk time of up to 7.5 (2G) or 10 hours (3G).
In addition to USB charging, the Lumia 920 can be recharged inductively using Qi standards. Rather than requiring the use of a physical connection to the phone, it allows the phone to be charged when placed above the charging pad (which requires a separate power supply).

Operating system and software
The Nokia Lumia 920 runs the Windows Phone 8 operating system. Like other Lumia devices, 920 includes exclusive Nokia apps, such as Nokia City Lens, an additional reality software that provides dynamic information about the user's environment using the camera.
It also includes the HERE app suite from Nokia, which provides offline maps, worldwide voice-guided navigation, and public transport information around the world. Other bundled applications include Nokia Music, which streams thousands of songs for free, and Nokia Smart Shoot, which lets users take a selected portion of the photo using a lens for a camera app that takes a number of photos in sequence.
Update
On December 19, 2012, Nokia began launching Portico updates for Lumia 920 and 820, which also included firmware update for 920 with improved camera and battery upgrades. Lumia 920 device is now shipped with Portico update.
From August 16, 2013, Nokia launches Amber updates, which have been pre-installed on Nokia Lumia 925 and 1020 and include some camera performance and performance improvements, to any Nokia device running Windows Phone 8.
From about January 13, 2014, Nokia launches Black update to Nokia Lumia devices running Windows Phone 8. Key features include an enhanced viewing screen and new camera interface as well as new Storyteller apps.
Technical issues
- Some users have reported that their phone reboots randomly. Portico update is intended to fix this random reboot problem, but the problem persists after the update. A further hotfix to resolve this issue was released in June 2015.
- Some users complain that the battery is too fast and the phone is overheating. Aloysius Low from CNET Asia does not pay attention to the very fast battery rate in other smartphones even with the same usage pattern. The problem has been fixed in Portico update.
- Videos larger than 4 GB are corrupted when transferred to the computer.
- Portico update introduces a brightness bug, but there is a possible solution.
- Dust sticks under the front-facing camera and proximity sensor, which could potentially cause drop-off calls and prevent users from accessing the phone-related menu. The affected phone owner can be replaced with a screen and the protective sheath is installed for free. Compressed air can also be used to remove dust.

Reception
Stock market reaction
The initial stock market reaction to Lumia 920 (and Lumia 820, announced on the same day) was immediately negative. During the product announcement, Nokia's shares slumped 10%, and eventually closed 16% on the day. The presentation itself is described as unclear, disappointing, and has no "positive surprises, carrier announcements or special launch dates." Investors seem to remain unsure of Nokia's mobile strategy and its continued partnership with Microsoft.
Reviews
Nokia Lumia 920 receives mixed and positive reviews. Many critics have noted the Lumia 920 hardware as the first time a Windows Phone device can actually compete with top-notch Android and iOS device hardware. Critics praised the screen, camera and unique features of the device, while also criticizing the weight and thickness of the phone. CNET ranks 4 stars out of 5, praises the screen, attractive design, exciting Nokia exclusive apps and a fun OS, while the negative ones are unimpressive battery life and heavy weights. The user rating is 4.5 out of 5. ExpertReviews gives Lumia 920 rating 5 of 5. Mobiledia gives it 4 out of 5. Laptop Mag gives it a 4 stars rating out of 5, praises the colorful design, amazing camera, HD display and inductive charging, as well as useful Nokia apps. The cons are that it's relatively heavy and that Windows Phone 8 does not have as many apps as Android and iOS.
And Nosowitz from Popular Science wrote: "I spent a lot of time with Lumia 920, much longer than I usually spend with a mobile review unit. This is a phone I like the most! But I can only I do not It's too big, the battery life is lackluster, and Windows Phone 8 has some big problems besides it's not a bad phone, when you swipe through a weather app or beautiful news, you really forget the drawbacks, and that's a good price But there's a better phone out there. "
Adam Z. Lein from Pocketnow writes: "Our final rating will be 8.3 out of 10. The hardware, screen, camera, sound quality, video stabilization, and Nokia apps are all very impressive. the negative for me is its large size and there is no battery that can be replaced by the user. Everything else on this phone is the best. "
Sam Biddle of Gizmodo writes: "Killing me to say this, because I want to have this instead of iPhone 5, but no.No, it's too big and heavy. This is not fun to have. It's not fun to use.If you want Windows Phone, check out the excellent HTC 8X.But this is not, not this. "
However, Luke Hopewell from Gizmodo Australia wrote a reply: "Yes it's heavy, but it's something you're used to.Sam says that the phone is too heavy to contemplate living together, and that's almost true.If you can go beyond the weight of the device, you're in the treatment. It's almost auspicious when it comes to taking photos, honestly. This makes it easier to stabilize. "
Dieter Bohn from The Verge wrote: "The software and hardware balance attached to Lumia 920 can be valuable if you have bought into the Microsoft ecosystem, but for most people I do not think it is a sure bet."
Jessica Dolcourt of CNET in her camera review wrote: "The photo quality is strong and fairly consistent, although the photos have a blue cast for them and Lumia 920 has problems with contrast and absolute sharpness compared to others."
Sales
On January 10, 2013, Nokia released preliminary financial information for Q4 2012, saying that it has sold more than 4.4 million Lumia devices in the quarter. In the United States, Lumia phones are sold out very quickly because unlimited delivery is not a significant request.
On Amazon's best-selling list, Lumia 920 has, until November 2012, become the best-selling phone of the week, with different color options taking number one, two, and four places. In England, it occupied the Expansys chart during the same period.
On October 15, 2012, he topped the French charts, defeating the already-available iPhone 5, LG Optimus L3, Sony Xperia U and Samsung Galaxy Ace.
On November 23, 2012, it was reported that the device has 2.5 million pre-orders worldwide in just three weeks of availability. For comparison, it's more than the entire (previous) Lumia (610, 710, 800, 900) sold throughout the third quarter of 2012.
According to the technology blog BGR, "recent discussions with two British operators reflect the emerging consensus that Lumia 920 is fading rapidly in Europe, while the low-end Lumia 520 sparked a lot of early interest".
